System for Automated Determination of Dissolution Rate

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1974
Abstract An automated dissolution rate apparatus meeting requirements of the USP–NF dissolution test and applicable to various other agitation systems in common usage is described. The equipment allows simultaneous determination of the dissolution rate of six unit doses, enabling evaluation of a statistically significant number of samples. The system,

Solubility and Dissolution Rates in Reactive Media

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1964
The relationship between the diffusion-controlled dissolution rate of a substance in a reactive medium and the solubility of the substance in the medium has been analyzed. The results reconcile the total solubility method and the simultaneous diffusion and chemical reaction method of interpreting data on dissolution rates.

Dissolution Rate Studies on Methylprednisolone Polymorphs

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1964
Dissolution rates (DR) of methylprednisolone polymorphs I and II were determined by the rotating disk method as a function of rate of rotation (RR). The results show that the DR-RR relationship differs from that normally expected in the case of diffusion-controlled dissolution from rotating disks.

Anodic dissolution of metals at high rates

IBM Journal of Research and Development, 1993
Electrochemical metal shaping and finishing processes involve anodic dissolution of metals at high rates. This paper presents a review of some fundamental aspects related to the understanding of such processes. Included are discussions of the phenomena of passive film breakdown that lead to the transpassive dissolution of metals, some of the available ...

Variability of Zinc Oxide Dissolution Rates

Environmental Science & Technology, 2017
Zinc oxide (ZnO) is of widespread use for numerous applications, including many in the cosmetic industry. Thus, ZnO particles are quite likely to enter the environment. ZnO may be harmful because of the release of cytotoxic Zn2+ ions during dissolution reactions.

Precision Apparatus for Dissolution Rate Determinations

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1964
An apparatus particularly useful for intrinsic dissolution rate determinations by the rotating disk method is described. It affords precision speed control, wide range of rotation rates, good shaft concentricity, and maintains constant speed over extended periods of time.

Improved Dissolution Rate of Indomethacin by Adsorbents

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 1998
Samples of indomethacin and kaolin or microcrystalline cellulose (Avicel) were prepared by solvent deposition or simple blending methods. Dissolution rates of these samples were studied. The surface adsorption of indomethacin on the studied adsorbents was shown to improve the dissolution rate of the drug in water.

Variability of Dissolution Rates at Constant Undersaturation

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2002
Dissolution processes play an important role in marble weathering. Investigation of the dissolution kinetics of powdered Pentelic marble, a calcitic natural stone, showed that the rates measured at constant undersaturation decreased with time. It was found that the rate of dissolution decreased sharply to about 50% of the initial value before 5% of the

Dissolution Rate Studies III: Effect of Type and Intensity of Agitation on Dissolution Rate

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1973
The effect of flow rates on dissolution rates using a continuous flow, column-type apparatus was determined. The flow method of agitation is compared to three other types used with the static beaker procedure. The advantages of the column-type apparatus in attaining low intensities of agitation without sacrificing accuracy or homogeneity are discussed.

Fluoride reduces the rate of dissolution of bone

Bone and Mineral, 1988
Recently, fluoride has been used in the treatment of osteoporosis in an attempt to rebuild bone lost due to this disease. Fluoride has been shown to have a profound effect on osteoblasts and bone formation. Studies have shown that synthetic fluorapatite is more stable and less soluble than hydroxyapatite.
