Hybridization between distant lineages increases adaptive variation during a biological invasion: stickleback in Switzerland

open access: yes, 2010
The three-spined stickleback is a widespread Holarctic species complex that radiated from the sea into freshwaters after the retreat of the Pleistocene ice sheets.

Comparative transcriptomic analysis of reproductive characteristics of reciprocal hybrid lineages derived from hybridization between Megalobrama amblycephala and Culter alburnus

open access: yesBMC Genomic Data, 2023
Background Distant hybridization is an important breeding technique for creating new strains with superior traits by integrating two different genomes.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

The Formation of the Goldfish-Like Fish Derived From Hybridization of Female Koi Carp × Male Blunt Snout Bream

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2018
Goldfish (Carassius auratus var., GF; 2n = 100) is the most popular ornamental fish in the world. It is assumed that GF evolved from red crucian carp (C. auratus red var., RCC; 2n = 100). However, this hypothesis lacks direct evidence.

From Shear to Sound: Mechanics–Acoustics Mapping of TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices are mapped across mechanical and acoustic performance, revealing that descriptors validated in compression fail under shear. First‐time comparison with trusses included. A transition from porous to resonance‐driven absorption emerges at 25% density.

Hybrid acoustic models for distant and multichannel large vocabulary speech recognition [PDF]

open access: yes2013 IEEE Workshop on Automatic Speech Recognition and Understanding, 2013
We investigate the application of deep neural network (DNN)-hidden Markov model (HMM) hybrid acoustic models for far-field speech recognition of meetings recorded using microphone arrays. We show that the hybrid models achieve significantly better accuracy than conventional systems based on Gaussian mixture models (GMMs).

Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.

ON REPRODUCTIVE BIOLOGY OF DISTANT HYBRIDS IN THE GROSSULARIACEAE FAMILY

open access: yesPROCEEDINGS ON APPLIED BOTANY, GENETICS AND BREEDING, 2017
Pollen morphology and pollen quality in distant hybrids of the genus Ribes L. were studied in the Russian North-West. A rather high fertility level was found in the studied hybrids, except for the triploid ‘Dlinnokistnaya CGL’. A connection between anomalous morphological features of the pollen wall structure and the pollen fertility level has been ...

Experimental and Numerical Modal Analysis of Composite Sandwich Structures Using Surfboards as Model Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents an experimental and numerical modal investigation of composite sandwich structures using surfboards as model systems. By comparing different core materials and reinforcement strategies, the study demonstrates how local stiffeners influence vibrational response and introduce characteristic modal features, highlighting modal ...

Study on the Compatibility of Distant Hybridization Between Rhododendron Subgenus Tsutsusi and R. moulmainense, a Fragrant Rhododendron from China

open access: yes
Fragrant rhododendron varieties remain relatively limited in current germplasm resources, constraining the enhancement of ornamental and aromatic characteristics in rhododendron breeding—this limitation has emerged as a critical bottleneck in the ...
