Maternal overweight and obesity during pregnancy and sex‐dependent dysregulation of the materno‐fetal stress axis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Maternal obesity and excess gestational weight gain (GWG) are linked to adverse perinatal outcomes, potentially via disruption of the maternal–fetal stress axis. Placental HSD11B2 protects the fetus from excess glucocorticoids and may influence fetal programming during maternal metabolic stress.

Polymorphic STRs represent unique genetic signals beyond SNPs associated with climate adaptation in Marchantia polymorpha

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Natural populations of Marchantia polymorpha sampled across contrasting climatic regions show clear geographic differentiation between Europe and Japan based on polymorphic short tandem repeat (STR) variation. Genome‐wide association (GWAS) analyses identified pSTR loci whose repeat‐length variation tracks temperature‐related WorldClim variables.

Diurnal habitat selection of migrating Whooping Crane in the Great Plains

open access: yesAvian Conservation and Ecology, 2019
Available stopover habitats with quality foraging opportunities are essential for migrating waterbirds, including Whooping Crane (Grus americana). Several studies have evaluated habitats used by Whooping Crane for roosting throughout its migration ...

Bidirectional Pathological Axis Between Alzheimer's Disease and Circadian Rhythm Disturbance: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Strategies

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates a bidirectional vicious cycle between Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and circadian rhythm disturbance (CRD). On the one hand, AD pathology, including amyloid‐β (Aβ) plaque deposition and tau hyperphosphorylation, may damage the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) and disrupt melatonin signaling, leading to sleep fragmentation ...

A Coupled AquaCrop–Richards Model for Improved Crop Yield Prediction Through Physically Based Soil Water Dynamics

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Crop modelling is essential for agricultural water management but often relies on simplified water balance routines that limit representation of soil moisture dynamics. To address this limitation, we developed a coupled model that integrates the 1‐D Richards equation, solved using a finite difference method into the FAO AquaCrop.

Ethnoracial Discrimination and Subsequent Cognitive Functioning Among Adolescents: A 2‐Month Follow‐up Study

open access: yesJournal of Adolescence, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Ethnoracial discrimination is a persistent risk factor for adolescents' developmental problems, yet limited research has examined its prospective association with adolescents' cognitive functioning. The current research employed a two‐wave design to investigate whether ethnoracial discrimination predicted subsequent adolescent ...

Characteristics of Boundary Layer Height Variations in Global Arid Regions and Their Sensitivity to Influencing Energy Factors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Global warming has intensified drought impacts across most arid regions, altering surface energy partitioning and atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) development. Using 1979–2018 ERA‐Interim reanalysis data, we show that the long‐term mean boundary layer height (BLH) over global arid regions is approximately 841.8 m, nearly 200 m higher than over humid ...

Beyond ENSO: Temperature, Rainfall Variability and Emerging Climate Risks in Belize

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study analyses 50 years (1975–2024) of Belize's climate data to evaluate ENSO's influence. Results show negligible ENSO impact on rainfall but a moderate signal in nighttime dry‐season temperatures, with El Niño years 0.5°C–1.0°C warmer than La Niña years.
