Improved characterisation of intra-night optical variability of prominent AGN classes
The incidence of intra-night optical variability (INOV) is known to to differ significantly among different classes of powerful active galactic nuclei (AGN). A number of statistical methods have been employed in the literature for testing the presence of

String bits and the Myers effect [PDF]
Based on the non-abelian effective action for D1-branes, a new action for matrix string theory in non-trivial backgrounds is proposed. Once the background fields are included, new interactions bring the possibility of non-commutative solutions i.e.

Tailoring Spatial Correlations With Quantum Interference
Imposing spatial structure on interfering photons fundamentally reshapes their correlations. By controlling the mutual distinguishability of two photons, we write and edit these correlations, encoding information that is invisible to conventional intensity measurements and revealed only through their joint behavior.

When seeking nanoparticles with elevated drug loading content, the experimental setup, including solvent selection, is crucial. Through machine learning, we pinpointed that the drug's solubility in the organic solvent is the key factor for attaining high drug loading content.

Vibrational and AFM studies of adsorption of glycine on DLC and silicon-doped DLC
A better understanding of protein adsorption onto surfaces of materials is required to control biocompatibility and bioactivity. Diamond-like carbon (DLC) is known to have excellent biocompatibility. Various samples of a-C:H and silicon-doped a-C:H thin films (Si-DLC) were deposited onto silicon substrates using plasma-enhanced chemical vapour ...

ABSTRACT We investigate some chemostat models incorporating wall growth, competition, random fluctuations on the dilution rate, and different consumption functions (Monod and Haldane). We analyze the asymptotic behavior of the solutions of the corresponding random differential systems to establish conditions on the model parameters under which the ...

Surface textured and DLC coated (hydrogenated amorphous carbon) samples were assessed for their coating performance at 40 oC, 80 oC and 125 oC. As a result, textured a-C:H DLC demonstrated higher but stable coefficient of friction (COF) at high ...

Diamondlike carbon protective coatings for optical windows [PDF]
Diamondlike carbon (DLC) films were deposited on infrared transmitting optical windows and were evaluated as protective coatings for these windows exposed to particle and rain erosion. The DLC films were deposited on zinc selenide (ZnSe) and zinc sulfide

Thirty years of glyphosate‐resistant crops and weeds: Current situation and future prospects
Since 1996, when the first glyphosate‐resistant crop was commercialized and the first resistant weed was reported, resistance has expanded globally. This review analyzes emergence patterns across weed species, crops, regions, resistance mechanisms, and herbicides.

Optical and scratch resistant properties of diamondlike carbon films deposited with single and dual ion beams [PDF]
Amorphous diamondlike carbon (DLC) films were deposited using both single and dual ion beam techniques utilizing filament and hollow cathode ion sources. Continuous DLC films up to 3000 A thick were deposited on fused quartz plates.
