N, N-Dimethyltryptamine, a natural hallucinogen, ameliorates Alzheimer’s disease by restoring neuronal Sigma-1 receptor-mediated endoplasmic reticulum-mitochondria crosstalk

open access: yesAlzheimer’s Research & Therapy
Background Aberrant neuronal Sigma-1 receptor (Sig-1r)-mediated endoplasmic reticulum (ER)- mitochondria signaling plays a key role in the neuronal cytopathology of Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

Low-PAPR ASE-DMT Using Constellation Extension for Optical Wireless Communications

open access: yesSensors
In the realm of optical wireless communication (OWC), augmented spectral efficiency discrete multitone (ASE-DMT) has been widely recognized as a promising modulation due to its outstanding spectral efficiency and high power efficiency.

Peptide Thioester and Triazole Derivatives Through On‐Resin Dual‐Modification of Peptide Thiosulfonates

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
An on‐resin dual‐modification strategy for peptides is presented, comprising S‐alkynylation of peptide thiosulfonates and regioselective iridium‐catalyzed azide–thioalkyne cycloaddition. This method reliably provides access to peptides with intricate non‐canonical modifications, being compatible with complex peptides, alkynes and azides.

Perceptual defensiveness and ESP performance: Reconstructed DMT ratings and psychological correlates in the first German DMT-ESP experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The concept of perceptual defensiveness is related to subliminal perception and preconscious processing. Meta-analyses of earlier experiments, 6 in the United States and Holland and 10 in Iceland, on the Defense Mechanism Test (DMT)-ESP relationship had ...

Sum-rate maximisation comparison using incremental approaches with different constraints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this work, the problem of rate maximisation of multichannel systems is considered. Two greedy allocation approaches using power (GPA) and bit (GBA) loading schemes with a slight difference in design constraints that aiming to maximise the overall ...

Inter‐ and intraspecific variation in theropod dinosaur dental microwear and its palaeoecological implications

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Differences in skull and tooth morphology, stomach contents, and estimated bite force between medium‐to‐large sized (≥100 kg) predatory theropod dinosaurs have long been suspected to correlate with differences in their diets and dietary guilds (e.g., hypercarnivory, piscivory).

An encounter with death: a comparative thematic and content analysis of naturalistic DMT experiences and the near-death experience

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
IntroductionClassical near-death experiences (NDEs) refer to states of disconnected consciousness characterised by a range of features occurring in the context of being close to death. Various psychedelic substances, such as N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT),

Switching disease‐modifying therapies in patients with spinal muscular atrophy: A systematic review on effectiveness outcomes

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
With multiple disease‐modifying therapies now available, treatment switching has become an important clinical consideration in the management of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). While some switches are prompted by suboptimal clinical response, more commonly they are driven by treatment burden, convenience, or adverse events.

A new low-cost discrete bit loading using greedy power allocation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper we consider a low cost bit loading based on the greedy power allocation (GPA). Compared to the standard GPA, which is optimal in terms of maximising the data throughput, three suboptimal schemes are suggested, which perform GPA on subsets ...

Early‐stage health technology assessment of a curative gene therapy for multiple sclerosis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Multiple sclerosis (MS) is associated with significant early morbidity, reduced life expectancy and substantial healthcare and societal costs. The primary objective of this study is to assess the early cost‐effectiveness potential of a novel gene therapy, IMMUTOL, for MS compared with current high‐efficacy treatment sequences.
