Amplified ribosomal DNA from Xenopus laevis has heterogeneous spacer lengths. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1974
Eco R 1 restriction endonuclease makes two cuts in each repeating unit of amplified ribosomal DNA (rDNA) from Xenopus laevis . The locations of these cuts have been established by comparison of the secondary structure of single-stranded Eco R 1

Structure of the intergenic spacers in chicken ribosomal DNA [PDF]

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 2019
Abstract Background Ribosomal DNA (rDNA) repeats are situated in the nucleolus organizer regions (NOR) of chromosomes and transcribed into rRNA for ribosome biogenesis. Thus, they are an essential component of eukaryotic genomes.

Ribosomal DNA (rDNA) spacer polymorphism in mole rats. [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Biology and Evolution, 1987
Genetic differentiation of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) nontranscribed-spacer (NTS) polymorphism was analyzed in 50 individuals from 13 populations among the four chromosomal species (2n = 52, 2n = 54, 2n = 58, and 2n = 60) of subterranean mole rats of the Spalax ehrenbergi complex in Israel.

Transcriptional role for the nontranscribed spacer of rat ribosomal DNA. [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Biology, 1986
In vitro transcription of the rat rRNA gene led to the identification of a region within a 3.4-kilobase fragment of the nontranscribed spacer (NTS) which significantly increased the transcription of rat ribosomal DNA. Promoter constructs containing this region were transcribed up to 17-fold more efficiently in vitro than templates with only 167 or 286 ...

Transcription in cloned spacers of Xenopus laevis ribosomal DNA. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1983
Rare individuals of Xenopus laevis exhibit frequent initiation of transcription in the spacers of oocyte ribosomal DNA (rDNA). Using electron microscopy we have characterized spacer transcription in such an individual and have confirmed that the sites of transcription initiation correspond to the imperfectly duplicated promoters ("Bam islands") present

Functional analysis of transcribed spacers of yeast ribosomal DNA. [PDF]

open access: yesThe EMBO Journal, 1990
Making use of an rDNA unit, containing oligonucleotide tags in both the 17S and 26S rRNA gene, we have analyzed the effect of various deletions in the External Transcribed Spacer (ETS) and in one of the Internal Transcribed Spacers 1 (ITS1) on the process of ribosome formation in yeast.

The structure of the maize ribosomal DNA spacer region

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1986
A combination of a single stranded plasmid vector and ordered deletions were used to determine the complete nucleotide sequence of a rDNA spacer region isolated from the DNA of maize Black Mexican Sweet suspension cells. The sequence reveals the presence of ten "200 base" subrepeats within the maize rDNA spacer region.

Transcription of spacer sequences flanking the rat 45S ribosomal DNA gene. [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Biology, 1987
The transcriptional activity of spacer sequences flanking the rat 45S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) gene were studied. Nascent RNA labeled in in vitro nuclear run-on reactions hybridized with both 5' and 3' spacer regions. The highest level of hybridization was seen with an rDNA fragment containing tandem repeats of a 130-base-pair sequence upstream of the 45S ...

Restriction analysis of spacers in ribosomal DNA of Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1979
The sequence arrangement of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) spacers in Drosophila melanogaster was analyzed with restriction endonucleases. Spacers, derived from cloned rDNA repeats and from uncloned purified rDNA, are internally repetitive, as demonstrated by the regular 250 base pairs interval between sites recognized by the enzyme Alu I.

Ribosomal Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) DNA Variation in Millepora

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science: Research & Development, 2015
Two main growth forms of Millepora (fire coral) are present around the islands of The Bahamas: one exhibits a strong, blade-like structure, Millepora complanata, and the other possesses a delicate branch-like structure, Millepora alcicornis. The phylogenetic relationship of these corals has been under considerable debate for over a century due to the ...
