DNA sequence analyses of the ribosomal spacer regions in theTriticeae

Plant Systematics and Evolution, 1988
Two regions of the ribosomal DNA (rDNA) were sequenced from a range of species from the tribeTriticeae. One region, the central spacer, was found to be more divergent in sequence than the other, the 18 S-spacer junction. Both regions contained sequences 20–30 bp long which were more highly conserved than the remainder of the region and their possible ...

The internal transcribed spacer of nuclear ribosomal DNA in the gymnosperm Gnetum

Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2005
We analyze the structure of the internal transcribed spacers ITS1 and ITS2 of the nuclear ribosomal DNA in the gymnosperm Gnetum, using a phylogenetic framework derived mainly from an intron in the nuclear low-copy LEAFY gene. Gnetum comprises 25-35 species in South America, Africa, and Asia, of which we sampled 16, each with two to six clones ...

Study of the 16S–23S ribosomal DNA internal spacer of Coxiella burnetii

European Journal of Epidemiology, 1997
The complete 16S-23S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of 22 isolates of the obligate intracellular bacterium Coxiella burnetii, the agent of Q fever, were amplified by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequenced using an automated laser fluorescent DNA sequencer.

Sequence Variation in the Ribosomal DNA Internal Transcribed Spacer of Tridacna crocea

Marine Biotechnology, 2000
DNA-based genetic markers are needed to augment existing allozyme markers in the assessment of genetic diversity of wild giant clam populations. The dearth of polymorphic mitochondrial DNA regions amplified from known universal polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primers has led us to search other regions of the genome for viable sources of DNA ...

Transcription of tomato ribosomal DNA and the organization of the intergenic spacer

Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1990
The organization of the intergenic spacer of a 9.04 kb tomato ribosomal RNA gene (rDNA) was determined. The 3258 bp spacer contains two major repeat elements enclosing a region which includes 351 bp of an 81.8% A --T rich sequence. A block of nine 53 bp repeats begins 388 bp downstream from the 3' end of the 25S rRNA.

Nucleotide sequence of the intergenic spacer (IGS) of the tomato ribosomal DNA

Plant Molecular Biology, 1989
The intergenic spacer (IGS) of the ribosomal DNA spans the region from the 3' end of the 25S rRNA gene to the 5' end of the 18S rRNA gene. Here we report the sequence of the IGS of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum)

Identification of variability of ribosomal DNA spacer from Pseudomonas soil isolates

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1994
The polymerase chain reaction was used to amplify the spacer region located between the 16S and 23S ribosomal RNA genes of strains of Pseudomonas fluorescens and Pseudomonas putida isolated from peat bog, canola field, or arctic plants. Some of these amplified spacer regions were used to probe Southern blots of total DNA digests from the various ...

Functional analysis of internal transcribed spacer 2 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae ribosomal DNA

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1992
Using the previously described "tagged ribosome" (pORCS) system for in vivo mutational analysis of yeast rDNA, we show that small deletions in the 5'-terminal portion of ITS2 completely block maturation of 26 S rRNA at the level of the 29 SB precursor (5.8 S rRNA-ITS2-26 S rRNA). Various deletions in the 3'-terminal part, although severely reducing the

Tobacco ribosomal DNA spacer element stimulates amplification and expression of heterologous genes

Nature Biotechnology, 2000
Here we show that the cis-acting genetic element aps (amplification-promoting sequence), isolated from the nontranscribed spacer region of tobacco ribosomal DNA (rDNA), increases the level of expression of recombinant proteins. Transgenic tobacco plants, transformed with expression cassettes containing the herbicide-resistant acetolactate synthase (hr ...

Genotyping of Trichophyton rubrum by analysis of ribosomal-DNA intergenic spacer regions

Mycopathologia, 2007
An attempt was made to explore the genotyping of Trichophyton rubrum (T. rubrum) and the relationship between genotype and geographical origin using ribosomal restriction endonuclease polymorphic analysis. The total DNA was extracted by cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). The probe was amplified from part of the 18S, ITSI, 5.8S, and ITSII region of
