Fourteen internal transcribed spacers in the circular ribosomal DNA of Euglena gracilis

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1990
Cytoplasmic ribosomes from Euglena gracilis contain 16 rRNA components. These include the typical 5 S, 5.8 S and 19 S rRNAs that are found in other eukaryotes as well as 13 discrete small RNAs that interact to form the equivalent of eukaryotic 25-28 S rRNA (accompanying paper).

Typing truffle species by PCR amplification of the ribosomal DNA spacers

Mycological Research, 1994
Variation within the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and the intergenic spacer (IGS) of the ribosomal RNA genes of European species of Tuber was examined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and coupled restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis.

Polyploidy and Ribosomal-DNA Spacer Variability in Poa labillardieri

Australian Journal of Botany, 1991
With changing agricultural practices, poa tussock (Poa labillardieri Steud.) has become a serious weed of Australian tableland pastures. To determine whether there are any genetic differences within the species that might have a bearing on this problem, accessions of P.

Is higher-order structure conserved in eukaryotic ribosomal DNA intergenic spacers?

Journal of Molecular Evolution, 1992
Computer-based structural analysis of the ribosomal DNA intergenic spacer (IGS) from the mosquito Aedes albopictus revealed a potential to form strong and extensive secondary structures throughout a 4.7-kilobase (kb) region. The predicted stability of secondary structures was particularly high within a 3.15-kb region containing 17 tandem 201 base-pair ...

Ribosomal DNA spacer probes for yeast identification: Studies in the genus Metschnikowia

Yeast, 1991
AbstractTo test whether DNA probes derived from ribosomal DNA spacer sequences are suitable for rapid and species‐specific yeast identification, a pilot study was undertaken. A 7·7 kb entire ribosomal DNA unit of the type strain of Metschnikowia reukaufii was isolated, cloned and mapped.

Authentication of Medicinal Dendrobium Species by the Internal Transcribed Spacer of Ribosomal DNA

Planta Medica, 2001
Herba Dendrobii (Shihu) is a commonly used Chinese medicine derived from the stem of several orchid species belonging to the genus Dendrobium. It is rather expensive and adulteration is frequent. Proper authentication of the medicinal species is necessary to protect consumers and support conservation measures.

Structure of the central spacer region of extrachromosomal ribosomal DNA in Physarum polycephalum

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1982
Abstract We have analyzed the sequence organization of the central spacer region of the extrachromosomal ribosomal DNA from two strains of the acellular slime mold Physarum polycephalum . It had been inferred previously from electron microscopy that this region, which comprises about one third of the 60 kb ‡ palindromic rDNA, contains a complex ...
