Satellite DNA and evolution of sex chromosomes

open access: yes, 1976
The satellite DNA (satellite III) which is mainly represented in the female of Elaphe radiata (Ophidia, Colubridae) has been isolated and its buoyant density has been determined (δ=1.700 g cm−3).

Rapid Evolution of Horse Satellite DNA

open access: yesGenomics, 1993
The major satellite of the horse genome consists of about 1 million copies of a 221-bp tandem repeat unit. By fluorescence in situ hybridization it has been localized in the centromeres of 58 of the 64 horse chromosomes. The donkey genome contains a similar but not identical satellite. Strikingly, the equine repeat did not hybridize to DNA of the Grevy

Sex‐Specific Regulation of Glycemic Homeostasis by Theabrownin from Pu‐erh Tea

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pu‐erh tea's key component, theabrownin (TB), lowers blood glucose in a sex‐specific manner. In females, estrogen boosts intestinal MUC2 production, which dramatically enhances TB's ability to inhibit the carbohydrate‐digesting enzyme α‐glucosidase.

Functional Analysis of DNA Methylation in Development and Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The genome of mammals harbors chemical modifications at some cytosine residues in the form of a methyl group. These modified residues, termed 5’-methylcytosines, have been discovered more than 50 years ago (Hotchkiss 1948) and have since been shown to ...

PRC2.1 Coordinates Peri‐Nucleolar H3K27me3‐Enriched Heterochromatin Organization and NPM1 Pentamerization to Maintain Nucleolar Integrity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PRC2.1(PCL2)‐coordinated H3K27me3‐enriched PNH establishes a spatial scaffold crucial for nucleolar integrity. As a crucial coordinator, PCL2 links PRC2.1 to chromatin organization and NPM1 assembly. This network‐based model reveals how chromatin modifications and nucleolar components cooperatively maintain nucleolar architecture, revealing novel ...

Begomovirus-Associated Satellite DNA Diversity Captured Through Vector-Enabled Metagenomic (VEM) Surveys Using Whiteflies (Aleyrodidae)

open access: yesViruses, 2016
Monopartite begomoviruses (Geminiviridae), which are whitefly-transmitted single-stranded DNA viruses known for causing devastating crop diseases, are often associated with satellite DNAs.

A Toolkit for Targeted Neuromodulation of Striatal Direct Pathway Neurons Rescues Parkinsonian Motor Deficits in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An adeno‐associated virus (AAV) toolkit enables selective anatomical and functional targeting of striatal D1‐MSNs through retrograde transduction. Enhanced capsids and engineered enhancers drive robust transgene expression across murine and primate models.

A new EcoRI family of satellite DNA in lampreys

open access: yes, 1996
Satellite DNA sequences have been studied in several groups of organisms. However, until now this type of sequence has not been characterized in cyclostomata, an evolutionarily important class of vertebrates.

Delineation of individual human chromosomes in metaphase and interphase cells by in situ suppression hybridization using recombinant DNA libraries [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
A method of in situ hybridization for visualizing individual human chromosomes from pter to qter, both in metaphase spreads and interphase nuclei, is reported.
