Drip and Mate Operations Acting in Test Tube Systems and Tissue-like P systems

open access: yes, 2009
The operations drip and mate considered in (mem)brane computing resemble the operations cut and recombination well known from DNA computing. We here consider sets of vesicles with multisets of objects on their outside membrane interacting by drip and ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Hardware-Accelerated Data Readout Platform Using Heterogeneous Computing for DNA Data Storage

open access: yesApplied Sciences
DNA data storage has emerged as a promising alternative to traditional storage media due to its high density and durability. However, large-scale DNA storage systems generate massive sequencing reads, posing substantial computational complexity and ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Parallel Function Application on a DNA Substrate [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
In this paper I present a new model that employs a biological (specifically DNA -based) substrate for performing computation. Specifically, I describe strategies for performing parallel function application in the DNA-computing models described by ...

Structural stability versus conformational sampling in biomolecular systems: Why is the charge transfer efficiency in G4-DNA better than in double-stranded DNA?

open access: yes, 2010
The electrical conduction properties of G4-DNA are investigated using a hybrid approach, which combines electronic structure calculations, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, and the formulation of an effective tight-binding model Hamiltonian.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Directed evolution effectively selects for DNA based physical reservoir computing networks capable of multiple tasks

open access: yesNeuromorphic Computing and Engineering
DNA and other biopolymers are being investigated as new computing substrates and alternative to silicon-based digital computers. However, the established top–down design of biomolecular interaction networks remains challenging and does not fully exploit ...
