DNA hydroxymethylation levels are altered in blood cells from Down syndrome persons enrolled in the MARK-AGE project [PDF]
Down syndrome (DS) is caused by the presence of part or an entire extra copy of chromosome 21, a phenomenon that can cause a wide spectrum of clinically defined phenotypes of the disease. Most of the clinical signs of DS are typical of the ageing process

DNA Methylation and Demethylation in Mammals [PDF]
Cell type-specific DNA methylation patterns are established during mammalian development and maintained in adult somatic cells. Understanding how these patterns of 5-methylcytosine are established and maintained requires the elucidation of mechanisms for both DNA methylation and demethylation.

Targeting p38α in cancer: challenges, opportunities, and emerging strategies
p38α normally regulates cellular stress responses and homeostasis and suppresses malignant transformation. In cancer, however, p38α is co‐opted to drive context‐dependent proliferation and dissemination. p38α also supports key functions in cells of the tumor microenvironment, including fibroblasts, myeloid cells, and T lymphocytes.

Tet3 regulates synaptic transmission and homeostatic plasticity via DNA oxidation and repair. [PDF]
Contrary to the long-held belief that DNA methylation of terminally differentiated cells is permanent and essentially immutable, post-mitotic neurons exhibit extensive DNA demethylation.

DNA methylation and demethylation dynamics
DNA methylation is one of the most studied epigenetic modifications and is essential for mammalian development. The methylation pattern is established through an extremely orchestrated mechanism that implicates de novo methylation, maintenance of the methylated cytosine, and demethylation.

The authors employed widely targeted metabolomics, microbial amplicon sequencing, and fermentation assays to investigate the microbiome 's influence on PCRC 's (pericarp of Citrus reticulata ' Chachi ') flavonoid profile over 0–19 years of storage. Based on the correlation analysis, solid‐state and liquid‐state fermentation, and catalytic activity ...

An Extended Culture System that Supports Human Primordial Germ Cell-like Cell Survival and Initiation of DNA Methylation Erasure. [PDF]
The development of an in vitro system in which human primordial germ cell-like cells (hPGCLCs) are generated from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) has been invaluable to further our understanding of human primordial germ cell (hPGC) specification ...

Retinoblastoma makes its mark on imprinting in plants [PDF]
Genomic imprinting results in the preferential expression of alleles from either the maternal or paternal chromosomes. This epigenetic process occurs in embryonic and extra-embryonic (placental) tissues of mammals, but only in the extra-embryonic ...

DNA demethylation in erythroleukaemia cells
Despite a fall in the proportion of CGs methylated, evidence has not been obtained for significant demethylation of prelabelled DNA when mouse erythroleukaemia cells are induced to differentiate. There is, however, a delay in the methylation of the DNA that is synthesised in the early period of induction, leading to its undermethylation by 30–50% and ...
