Circulating histones as clinical biomarkers in critically ill conditions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circulating histones are emerging as promising biomarkers in critical illness due to their diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic potential. Detection methods such as ELISA and mass spectrometry provide reliable approaches for quantifying histone levels in plasma samples.

Study of optimal method of Heterodera glycines sample preparation for molecular diagnostics

open access: yesRUDN Journal of Agronomy and Animal Industries
In this study, it is optimized by the methods of preparing samples for the release of genetic material (DNA) from soybean cyst-forming nematode Heterodera glycines , which is necessary for accurate identification.

Investigation of Bm86 gene analog sequence in some Iranian populations of Hyalomma anatolicum species [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Animal Biosystematics, 2006
Ticks are an important problem among zoonotic diseases. Main veterinary species of hard ticks are: Hyalomma sp. Boophilus sp and Rhipicephalus sp. Among them Hyalomma sp. have widespread distribution in Iran and Middle East.

A simple genetic method to distinguish mule deer and bighorn sheep fecal pellets and its application to detecting bighorn sheep colonization events in California

open access: yesCalifornia Fish and Wildlife Journal, 2023
Bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis) habitat frequently is geographically discontinuous and the metapopulation model fits this species well. Consequently, extinction-colonization dynamics are important and need to be monitored.

Impacts of DNA extraction and PCR on DNA metabarcoding estimates of soil biodiversity

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, 2018
Soils are ubiquitous and important components of terrestrial ecosystems, richly populated with diverse organisms with important ecological roles. DNA metabarcoding is a promising tool for efficient and taxonomically comprehensive analyses of soil ...

Insights into pegRNA design from editing of the cardiomyopathy‐associated phospholamban R14del mutation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how prime editing guide RNA (pegRNA) secondary structure and reverse transcriptase template length affect prime editing efficiency in correcting the phospholamban R14del cardiomyopathy‐associated mutation. Insights support the design of structurally optimized enhanced pegRNAs for precise gene therapy.

Modification of a commercial dna extraction kit to simultaneously recover rna, safely and rapidly, and to assess molecular biomass of the total and the active part of microbial communities, from soils with diverse mineralogy and carbon content : S11.04-P -15 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We have modified a commercial DNA extraction kit for soil to simultaneously co-extract RNA. In this new procedure RNA and DNA are separated by two selective purifications in cascade without the need of DNAase or RNAse digestion.

Intron‐oriented HTLV‐1 integration in an adult T‐cell leukemia/lymphoma cell line sustains expression of intact ift81 mRNA

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In the adult T‐cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL) cell line ED, the human T‐cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV‐1) provirus was integrated into the intron of the ift81 gene in the antisense orientation. Despite this integration, both the intact ift81 and the viral oncogene hbz were simultaneously expressed, likely due to the functional insufficiency of viral ...

Monitoring genetic population biomarkers for wastewater-based epidemiology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We report a rapid “sample-to-answer” platform that can be used for the quantitative monitoring of genetic biomarkers within communities through the analysis of wastewater. The assay is based on the loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) of nucleic
