Comprehensive Insights into Natural Bioactive Compounds: From Chemical Diversity and Mechanisms to Biotechnological Innovations and Applications

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
Natural products derived from plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, and minerals contain diverse bioactive classes such as alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, saponins, tannins, and phenolics. These natural products work through different mechanisms, including ROS inhibition, NF‐κB suppression, and cytokine regulation, and exhibit wide applications across ...

Green Synthesis of ZnO Nanoparticles From Spirulina platensis: Antimicrobial and Cytotoxic Evaluation With Molecular Docking Studies

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
Algal‐extract‐derived ZnO nanoparticles show shape anisotropy and are bio capped by phytochemicals. These green‐synthesized NPs strongly inhibit S. aureus and K. pneumoniae biofilms. Molecular docking suggests stable binding of surface biomolecules to microbial targets, highlighting synergistic antibacterial mechanisms.

Comprehensive review of DNA gyrase as enzymatic target for drug discovery and development

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medicinal Chemistry Reports
DNA gyrase is a member of the DNA topoisomerase protein family that catalyzes the conversion of different topological forms of DNA into one another. It is the sole enzyme that causes DNA to negatively supercoil. The enzyme is tetrameric with two GyrA (“A'

Transformation of a Thermostable G-Quadruplex Structure into DNA Duplex Driven by Reverse Gyrase

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
Reverse gyrase is a topoisomerase that can introduce positive supercoils to its substrate DNA. It is demonstrated in our studies that a highly thermal stable G-quadruplex structure in a mini-plasmid DNA was transformed into its duplex conformation after ...

Prophage Gifsy-1 Induction in Salmonella enterica Serovar Typhimurium Reduces Persister Cell Formation after Ciprofloxacin Exposure

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2023
Persister cells are drug-tolerant bacteria capable of surviving antibiotic treatment despite the absence of heritable resistance mechanisms. It is generally thought that persister cells survive antibiotic exposure through the implementation of stress ...

The Transcriptome of Streptococcus pneumoniae Induced by Local and Global Changes in Supercoiling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The bacterial chromosome is compacted in a manner optimal for DNA transactions to occur. The degree of compaction results from the level of DNA-supercoiling and the presence of nucleoid-binding proteins.

Cas9 interrogates DNA in discrete steps modulated by mismatches and supercoiling. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The CRISPR-Cas9 nuclease has been widely repurposed as a molecular and cell biology tool for its ability to programmably target and cleave DNA. Cas9 recognizes its target site by unwinding the DNA double helix and hybridizing a 20-nucleotide section of ...

Potential of bacteria isolated from chitin‐enriched soil against Euschistus heros (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
B. thuringiensis and B. altitudinis, isolated from chitin‐enriched soil, causing mortality in Euchistus heros under laboratory conditions. First report of B. altitudinis in the control of E. heros. Abstract BACKGROUND Biological control using entomopathogenic microorganisms is a more sustainable alternative to chemical pesticides for managing insect ...

Structural analysis of the NifL‐NifA complex reveals the molecular basis of anti‐activation of nitrogen fixation gene expression in Azotobacter vinelandii

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Using cryo‐EM combined with biochemical and genetic approaches, we mapped the interaction surface between NifL and NifA to gain insights into the regulation of nitrogen fixation genes in A. vinelandii. Our findings suggest that NifL, a homolog of histidine kinases lacking phosphorylation activity, evolved to act as a steric block of NifA activity ...

Identification of New Drug Candidates Against \u3cem\u3eBorrelia burgdorferi\u3c/em\u3e Using High-Throughput Screening [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Lyme disease is the most common zoonotic bacterial disease in North America. It is estimated that .300,000 cases per annum are reported in USA alone. A total of 10%–20% of patients who have been treated with antibiotic therapy report the recrudescence of
