Ecori DNA methylase activity is eliminated upon histidine residue modification

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1989
The E. coli EcoRI DNA methylase activity is completely eliminated in five minutes upon incubation with the histidine residue specific reagent diethyl pyrocarbonate. In that two moles of N-ethoxyformylimidazole per mole of methylase are detected spectroscopically upon inactivation and activity is not restored by hydroxylamine, it is likely that activity

Putative DNA modification methylase DR_C0020 of Deinococcus radiodurans is an atypical SAM dependent C-5 cytosine DNA methylase

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 2017
Control of cellular processes by epigenetic modification of cytosine in DNA is widespread among living organisms, but, is hitherto unknown in the extremely radioresistant microbe D. radiodurans.C-5 methyl cytosines (m5C) were detected by immuno-blotting with m5C-specific antibody.

DNA Substrate Site for the EcoRII. Restriction Endonuclease and Modification Methylase

Nature New Biology, 1973
The same nucleotide sequence in double stranded DNA restricted by the EcoRII restriction endonuclease is methylated by the EcoRII modification methylase. The EcoRII endonucleolytic cleavages generate DNA fragments with cohesive termini.

Sequence specificity of the P1 modification methylase (M·Eco P1) and the DNA methylase (M·Eco dam) controlled by the Escherichia coli dam gene

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1978
Abstract Labeled oligonucleotides have been fractionated from pancreatic DNase digests of DNA that had been methylated in vitro with the P1 modification enzyme (M· Eco P1) or with the DNA-adenine methylase (M· Eco dam) controlled by the Escherichia coli dam gene.

The Restriction and Modification DNA Methylases: An Overview

1984
The preceding two chapters have presented in detail all that is known about the genetic and enzymatic mechanisms of the modification DNA methylases and their relationship to the homologous restriction endonucleases. Although the number of systems that have been characterized is limited, sufficient information is available to allow a comparison of the ...
