Enzymes Involved in the Repair of DNA
1974Publisher Summary This chapter describes enzymes that have the potential to act upon irradiated DNA during different phases of an excision repair cycle. The duplex structure of DNA is maintained by relatively weak hydrogen bonds, which can be broken reversibly by either temperature or extremes in pH.

DNA Repair Enzymes in the Brain
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1992DNA polymerase beta (DNA pol beta) has long been considered the enzyme responsible for synthesis of DNA after excision of damaged sites. In the 1970s DNA pol beta was isolated and characterized as the major DNA polymerase occurring in neuronal nuclei.

DNA Repair Enzymes in Hyperthermophilic Archaea
1998The presence of hyperthermophilic microorganisms in hydrothermal environments at temperatures above 90°C is now well established (Stetter, 1990). In fact, isolates from deep sea marine hydrothermal vents can grow optimally under pressure at temperatures up to 113°C (Blochl et al., 1997).

DNA Repair Enzymes in Mammalian Cells
1977In the past two decades, considerable strides have been made in understanding the phenomenon of DNA damage and its repair at all levels of biological organization. Studies on living cells using prokaryote models have been extensively reviewed by a number of authors (Town et al., 1973; Setlow and Setlow, 1972; Smith, 1971; Witkin, 1969; Hanawalt, 1968 ...

Liposome-Encapsulated Enzymes for DNA Repair
1992Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the Western world, and strong epidemiological evidence links solar UV exposure to the vast majority of these cancers [11]. Our current understanding of the multi-step neoplastic process has focused on DNA damage as an initiating event.
