Mitochondrial DNA Role in Zika Virus Infection
2022Zika virus (ZIKV) is a member of the Flavivirus family. ZIKV infection ranges from asymptomatic to a mild disease in adults. However, in 2015, ZIKV infection became a public health emergency in the Americas associated with neurological alterations such as Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) in adults and congenital zika syndrome (CZS). By blocking type I IFN

Negatively supercoiled DNA from plants infected with a single-stranded DNA virus
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1984A method for isolating covalently closed circular double-stranded DNA from plants infected with the geminivirus, tomato golden mosaic virus, is described. Ethidium bromide titration showed this DNA to be negatively supercoiled with a superhelical density of -0.062.

Prevalence and Persistence of TT Virus DNA in HIV1-Infected Individuals
Infection, 2003TT virus (TTV) is a recently discovered virus with a high DNA prevalence in different populations. Its role in pathogenesis is uncertain, particularly in immunocompromised patients.Prevalence of TTV-DNA was evaluated in a cohort of HIV-infected patients and in blood donors by nested PCR, using two different primer sets: T primers, derived from the open

Analysis of transcriptional control in DNA virus infections
1999Abstract Transcriptional control in DNA viruses is highly regulated, showing a high degree of both tissue-specificity and temporal control of gene expression. During the replication of DNA viruses, transcription occurs first from the immediate-early (if applicable) and early genes, followed by the late genes, with these two phases of ...

A DNA vaccine for the prevention of Ebola virus infection.
Current opinion in molecular therapeutics, 2008The NIH and Vical Inc are developing an intramuscular needle-free DNA vaccine containing plasmids encoding the envelope glycoprotein of Ebola virus (EBOV) from the Sudan and Zaire strains, and the nucleoprotein of EBOV Zaire strain. A phase I clinical trial demonstrated a good safety profile, with most adverse events limited to the site of injection ...

Diagnosis of pseudorabies virus infection in pigs with specific dna probes
Research in Veterinary Science, 1987Two DNA probes directed against pseudorabies virus DNA were developed for use in a dot hybridisation to detect the presence of pseudorabies virus in infected tissues. The specificity of the probes and their sensitivity were analysed. There was a strong correlation between the results obtained by dot hybridisation and those obtained by conventional ...

DNA Aptamers with Chemically Locked Ends for Virus Infection Inhibition
ACS Applied Materials & InterfacesNucleic acid aptamers, known as chemical antibodies, demonstrate remarkable affinity and specificity for targets. Therefore, aptamers are proposed as an alternative to an antibody in extensive applications. However, nucleic acid aptamers exhibit poor tolerance to degradation by nucleases, which severely hampers their biological applications. Herein, we

Context matters: DNA virus infection reshapes DNA damage response pathways
Cell SystemsThe cellular DNA damage response pathway can have vastly different outcomes depending on the source of its activation. Justice and colleagues apply phosphoproteomics to uncover a divergence in DNA-PK and ATM kinase activities in the contexts of DNA damage and DNA virus infection.
