Mutation of CRYAB encoding a conserved mitochondrial chaperone and antiapoptotic protein causes hereditary optic atrophy

open access: yesJCI Insight
The degeneration of retinal ganglion cells (RGC) due to mitochondrial dysfunctions manifests optic neuropathy. However, the molecular components of RGC linked to optic neuropathy manifestations remain largely unknown.

Photo‐Switchable Molecular Module Programming PET Biodegradation in Aquatic Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We address the plastic durability paradox by integrating an itaconic acid–derived pyrrolidone module into polymer backbones. Sunlight in water triggers Norrish Type I ring‐opening and hydrophilization, enabling rapid biodegradation into nontoxic minerals.

Optic Nerve Hypoplasia in Autosomal Dominant Optic Atrophy

open access: yes, 2009
Autosomal dominant optic atrophy (ADOA) is the most common hereditary optic neuropathy, due to retinal ganglion cells degeneration.

Decoupling the Size and Loading Effects in Silver Nanoparticles for Efficient Paired Carbon Dioxide and Formaldehyde Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We investigate size‐dependent CO selectivity on Ag nanoparticles, where optimized Ag loading achieves nearly 100% Faradaic Efficiency for CO at −100 mA·cm−2. In situ SERS and XPS reveal the crucial role of optimized loading in catalytic performance. The Ag/C catalyst further exhibits bifunctional activity, enabling efficient electrolysis of CO2 and ...

Non-syndromic isolated dominant optic atrophy caused by the p.R468C mutation in the AFG3L2 gene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Autosomal Dominant Optic Atrophy (DOA) is the most frequent form of hereditary optic atrophy, a disease presenting with considerable inter- and intra-familial clinical variability.

Charge‐Polarized Ni─S4 Single‐Atom Sites Drive Selective Photoreforming of Poly(lactic acid) to Lactate and Hydrogen

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Atomically dispersed Ni–S4 sites on CdS nanorods induce interfacial charge polarization, directing photogenerated electrons to H2 evolution and holes to selective ester‐bond cleavage of poly(lactic acid). Without sacrificial reagents, this charge‐coupled system produces lactate while suppressing overoxidation, achieving an H2 evolution rate of 41.74 ...

XTRUDE: A Process‐Informed Framework for High‐Fidelity Analysis of Hydrogel Extrusion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Extrusion performance emerges from the interplay between material properties and processing conditions. XTRUDE (eXTrusion Rheology for Understanding and Defining Extrudability) recreates the extrusion environment with in situ pressure and temperature sensing, enabling characteristic pressure signatures to quantify extrusion‐specific phenomena and ...

The contribution of brain reorganisation to recovery in patients with optic neuritis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this thesis, the mechanisms of damage and repair in clinically isolated optic neuritis (ON) were investigated in vivo, by combining magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), electrophysiology and optical coherence tomography (OCT).

Pseudoexfoliative Glaucoma in a Patient with Toxic Optic Atrophy and Cupping

open access: yes, 2011
A 57-year-old man, who had developed bilateral symmetric optic atrophy and cupping due to methanol intoxication nine years ago, noticed slowly progressive visual impairment in the left eye (OS). In ophthalmic examination, visual acuity was 20/60 in the

Microfluidic Nano‐Assembly of Red‐Blood‐Cell (RBC) Lipids and Components for Engineering Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered red blood cell‐derived extracellular vesicles (eRBCEVs) are synthesized via controlled microfluidic assembly from native RBC lipids, enabling tunable encapsulation of proteins, nucleic acids, nanoparticles, and viral vectors. The platform demonstrates reproducible nanoscale architecture, preserved membrane composition, and functional cargo ...
