Creativity and Delusions: A Neurocomputational Approach [PDF]
Thinking is one of the most interesting mental processes. Its complexity is sometimes simplified and its different manifestations are classified into normal and abnormal, like the delusional and disorganized thought or the creative one. The boundaries between these facets of thinking are fuzzy causing difficulties in medical, academic, and ...

Direct conversion of human fibroblasts to dopaminergic neurons
Recent reports demonstrate that somatic mouse cells can be directly converted to other mature cell types by using combined expression of defined factors. Here we show that the same strategy can be applied to human embryonic and postnatal fibroblasts.

Cyclic Alternating Pattern Dynamics in Individuals at Risk for Developing Parkinson's Disease
Objective The objective of this study was to investigate the differences in cyclic alternating patterns (CAP) metrics, a non‐rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep physiological rhythm, among recently diagnosed patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), and individuals at high and low risk for developing PD based on genetic and prodromal risk.

The core motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD) are attributable to the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc). Mitochondrial oxidant stress is widely viewed a major factor in PD pathogenesis.

Dopamine Transporter Imaging as Objective Monitoring Biomarker in Parkinson's Disease
Objective Although dopamine transporter (DaT) imaging is a valuable diagnostic biomarker, few studies have investigated its utility in objectively monitoring disease progression in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). To date, no study has established a longitudinal relationship between the DaT signal decline and the motor symptom increase ...

Biophysics of risk aversion based on neurotransmitter receptor theory [PDF]
Decision under risk and uncertainty has been attracting attention in neuroeconomics and neuroendocrinology of decision-making. This paper demonstrated that the neurotransmitter receptor theory-based value (utility) function can account for human and animal risk-taking behavior.

Single dopaminergic neurons that modulate aggression in Drosophila
Monoamines, including dopamine (DA), have been linked to aggression in various species. However, the precise role or roles served by the amine in aggression have been difficult to define because dopaminergic systems influence many behaviors, and all can ...

Influence of nicotine and alcohol on sleep latency: the reward-attention circuit model [PDF]
We previously developed a neurocomputational model called the reward-attention circuit, which has been used to investigate the separate effects of nicotine and alcohol on attention focus. The model is based on known circuits linking midbrain dopaminergic neurons to the thalamocortical loop and is sufficiently versatile to capture diverse phenomena.
