q-Thermostatistics and the black-body radiation problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We give an exact information-theory treatment of the $n$-dimensional black-body radiation process in a non-extensive scenario. We develop a $q$ generalization of the laws of i) Stefan Boltzmann, ii) Planck, and iii) Wien, and show that conventional, canonical results are obtained at temperatures above $1 K$.

GEE Models for the Longitudinal Analysis of the Effects of Occupational Radiation Exposure on Lymphocyte Counts in Russian Nuclear Workers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The health effects of occupational radiation exposure have long been a source of scientific and administrative debates related to setting exposure standards.

Accounting for TLD response to CBCT protocols in external beam radiotherapy dose monitoring

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose LiF thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) are commonly used in radiation therapy to verify the delivered dose. Examples include dose verification for complicated treatment setups or cardiovascular implantable electronic devices (CIEDs). TLDs may be present for both the pre‐treatment imaging kilovoltage (kV) beam and the megavoltage (MV ...

Detection of late radiation damage on left atrial fibrosis using cardiac late gadolinium enhancement magnetic resonance imaging

open access: yesAdvances in Radiation Oncology, 2016
Purpose: This is a proof-of-principle study investigating the feasibility of using late gadolinium enhancement magnetic resonance imaging (LGE-MRI) to detect left atrium (LA) radiation damage.

Radiation dose-response (a Bayesian model) in the radiotherapy of the localized prostatic adenocarcinoma: the reliability of PSA slope changes as a response surrogate endpoint [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2019
Purpose One of the characteristics of Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) is PSA slope. It is the rate of diminishing PSA marker over time after radiotherapy (RT) in prostate cancer (PC) patients.

Dynamics of Solitons and Quasisolitons of Cubic Third-Order Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The dynamics of soliton and quasisoliton solutions of cubic third order nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equation is studied. The regular solitons exist due to a balance between the nonlinear terms and (linear) third order dispersion; they are not important at small $\alpha_3$ ($\alpha_3$ is the coefficient in the third derivative term) and vanish at ...

The burden of burnout: Understanding its prevalence and organizational drivers in medical physics

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Burnout is a work‐related syndrome characterized by increased levels of emotional exhaustion (EE) and depersonalization (DP) along with decreased levels of personal achievement. In the healthcare setting, higher burnout levels have been associated with negative impacts on personnel, an increased risk of errors, and a decrease in the

A biologically based mathematical model for spontaneous and ionizing radiation cataractogenesis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Cataracts have long been known, but a biomathematical model is still unavailable for cataratogenesis. There has been a renewed interest in ionizing radiation cataracts because the recent international recommendation of the reduced lens dose limit ...

Radiation therapy and serum salivary amylase in head and neck cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Radiation therapy (RT) is a valid treatment option for head and neck cancer (HNC). The risk of RT-induced toxicities is significant, especially due to extended treatment fields.

Glycosylation Gene Signatures as Prognostic Biomarkers in Glioblastoma

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive brain tumor characterized by significant heterogeneity. This study investigates the role of glycosylation‐related genes in GBM subtyping, prognosis, and response to therapy. Methods We analyzed mRNA expression data and clinical information from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression ...
