The role of higher thoracic irradiation doses in patients with limited stage of small-cell lung cancer: Retrospective study [PDF]

open access: yesArchive of Oncology, 2010
Background: Small-cell lung cancer is highly chemo- and radiosensitive tumor. We evaluated two different radiotherapy doses applied sequentially with chemotherapy in relation to time to progression, progression free survival, and overall survival in ...

Global Transcriptional Response of Escherichia coli Exposed In Situ to Different Low-Dose Ionizing Radiation Sources

open access: yesmSystems, 2023
Characterization of biological and chemical responses to ionizing radiation by various organisms is essential for potential applications in bioremediation, alternative modes of detecting nuclear material, and national security.

A novel characterisation of gravitational radiation in asymptotically flat space-times [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. D 101, 024060 (2020), 2019
A novel criterion to determine the presence of gravitational radiation arriving to, or departing from, null infinity of any weakly asymptotically-simple space-time with vanishing cosmological constant is given. The quantities involved are geometric, of tidal nature, with good gauge behaviour and univocally defined at null infinity.

Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

A Method to Evaluate Hormesis in Nanoparticle Dose-Responses

open access: yesDose-Response, 2012
The term hormesis describes a dose-response relationship that is characterized by a response that is opposite above and below the toxicological or pharmacological threshold. Previous reports have shown that this relationship is ubiquitous in the response

Quantum Optics of an Oscillator Falling into a Black Hole [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We present a quantum optics treatment of the near horizon behaviour of a quantum oscillator freely-falling into a pre-existing Schwarzschild black hole. We use Painleve-Gullstrand coordinates to define a global vacuum state. In contrast to an accelerated oscillator in the Minkowski vacuum, where there is no radiation beyond an initial transient, we ...

The Dose-response Relationships for Tumor Induction after High-LET Radiation.

open access: yesJournal of Radiation Research, 1991
This paper presents a review of several studies conducted in our laboratory to examine the carcinogenic effects in mice of high-LET radiation and, for comparison, of low-LET reference radiation. For some specific end-points the following conclusions can be formulated: i) the dose-response curves for myeloid leukemia and malignant lymphoma can be ...

Field calibration studies for ionisation chambers in mixed high-energy radiation fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The monitoring of ambient doses at work places around high-energy accelerators is a challenging task due the complexity of the mixed stray radiation fields encountered.

Adenosine A3 receptor antagonists as anti‐tumor treatment in human prostate cancer: an in vitro study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The A3 adenosine receptors (A3ARs) are overexpressed in prostate cancer. AR 292 and AR 357, as A3AR antagonists, are capable of blocking proliferation, modulating the expression of drug transporter genes involved in chemoresistance, ferroptosis, and the hypoxia response, and inducing cell death.

Evaluation of the Validity of a Nonlinear J-Shaped Dose-Response Relationship in Cancers Induced by Exposure to Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Physics and Engineering, 2019
The radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMFs) produced by widely used mobile phones are classified as possibly carcinogenic to humans by International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
