Elevated atmospheric CO2 (eCO2) concentration initially enhances photosynthesis, growth and ecosystem productivity, but the excessive use of nitrogen due to the increased productivity causes uncertainty in long-term ecosystem responses. We exposed Korean

Study on microRNA-9-5p reducing sensitivity of breast cancer cells to doxorubicin through targeting HIC1 [PDF]
Objective To study the effect of microRNA-9-5p (miR-9-5p) which regulate hypermethylated in cancer 1 (HIC1) in reducing sensitivity of breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cells to doxorubicin (DOX) and the mechanisms.

5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) cellular sequestration during chronic exposure delays 5-HT3 receptor resensitization due to Its subsequent release [PDF]
The serotonergic synapse is dynamically regulated by serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT)) with elevated levels leading to the down-regulation of the serotonin transporter and a variety of 5-HT receptors, including the 5-HT type-3 (5-HT(3)) receptors ...

The physiological response of Populus tremula x alba leaves to the down-regulation of PIP1 aquaporin gene expression under no water stress. [PDF]
In order to study the role of PIP1 aquaporins in leaf water and CO2 transport, several lines of PIP1-deficient transgenic Populus tremula x alba were generated using a reverse genetic approach. These transgenic lines displayed no visible developmental or

N-myc Down-Regulates Activin A
N-myc oncogene amplification is frequent in human neuroblastoma and predicts poor prognosis, but the molecular consequences have remained obscure. We report here that enhanced N-myc expression correlates with low or undetectable expression of activin A, but not other closely related members of the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily.

Loss of miR-107, miR-181c and miR-29a-3p promote activation of Notch2 signaling in pediatric high-grade gliomas (pHGGs) [PDF]
The mechanisms by which microRNAs control pediatric high-grade gliomas (pHGGs) have yet to be fully elucidated. Our studies of patient-derived pHGG tissues and of the pHGG cell line KNS42 revealed down-regulation in these tumors of three microRNAs ...

A novel treatment approach for retinoblastoma by targeting epithelial growth factor receptor expression with a shRNA lentiviral system [PDF]
Objective(s): Non-invasive treatment options for retinoblastoma (RB), the most common malignant eye tumor among children, are lacking. Epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR) accelerates cell proliferation, survival, and invasion of many tumors ...

Tre1 GPCR initiates germ cell transepithelial migration by regulating Drosophila melanogaster E-cadherin [PDF]
Despite significant progress in identifying the guidance pathways that control cell migration, how a cell starts to move within an intact organism, acquires motility, and loses contact with its neighbors is poorly understood.
