Drug–drug interaction analysis: Antituberculosis drugs versus antiretroviral drugs

open access: yesBiomedical and Biotechnology Research Journal, 2019
Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is an important public health globally. An important concomitant medical disorder among HIV-infected patients is tuberculosis. The management of concurrent infection between HIV and tuberculosis is

Systematic Exploration of Synergistic Drug Pairs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Drug synergy allows a therapeutic effect to be achieved with lower doses of component drugs. Drug synergy can result when drugs target the products of genes that act in parallel pathways (‘specific synergy’).

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

A simple molecular modeling method for the characterization of polymeric drug carriers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A simple molecular modeling method for the characterization of polymeric drug carriers is presented. Six biodegradable polymers have been investigated as drug carriers using molecular simulations: l-polylactide, d-polylactide, chitosan, polyglycolic acid,

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Drug-Drug Interaction Management in Hepatitis C Treatment

open access: yesAnkara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Mecmuası, 2018
“Direct acting antivirals” cure over 99% in the course of the disease as a recent breakthrough treatment method in hepatitis C treatment. Possible drug-drug interactions should not be overlooked.

Drugs and violence in Colombia: a VECM analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
It has been widely argued that the production of illegal drugs, particularly cocaine, has financed guerrilla activity in Colombia. This paper uses quarterly time-series data for Colombia 1994-2005 to examine the interaction between legal agricultural ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
