Ophthalmic drug delivery systems
Drug Development Research, 1984AbstractNew ophthalmic drug delivery systems are curently receiving increased attention, in part because of the expected emergence of new drugs with short biological half‐lives whose usefulness may depend on a more continuous drug supply than eyedrops can provide, but also because of the potential of some delivery systems to reduce the side effects of ...

Microparticulate drug delivery systems
1999Chitosan was proposed as a drug carrier for mucosal administration in ocular, buccal, nasal, gastroenteric and vaginal-uterine therapies based on its bioadhesive properties and biodegradability in vivo under the action of hydrolases. Examples are the delivery of acyclovir via ocular administration, and the delivery of 5-aminosalicylic acid to the colon.

Bioresponsive drug delivery systems
Drug Discovery TodayIn this review, we highlight the potential of stimuli-responsive drug delivery systems (DDSs) to revolutionize healthcare. Through examining pH, temperature, enzyme, and redox responsiveness, the presented case studies highlight the precision and enhanced therapeutic outcomes achievable with these innovative systems.

Pulsatile Drug-Delivery Systems
Critical Reviews in Therapeutic Drug Carrier Systems, 2001Delivery systems with a pulsatile-release pattern are receiving increasing interest for the development of drugs for which conventional controlled drug-release systems with a continuous release are not ideal. These drugs often have a high first-pass effect or special chronopharmacological needs.

Innovations in drug delivery systems
Current Medical Research and Opinion, 1983The history of pharmaceuticals has reflected a concern with the development of new chemical entities. Only recently has the importance of dosage form design been recognized as a vital component of effective therapy. Not only has the time and expense involved in the research of the new molecules escalated dramatically, but it has been discovered that ...

An Overview of Drug Delivery Systems
2019This is an overview of the current drug delivery systems (DDSs) starting with various routes of drug administration. Various drug formulations are then described as well as devices used for drug delivery and targeted drug delivery. There has been a considerable increase in the number of new biotechnology-based therapeutics.
