Synthesis of Bulk Superconducting LiNbO2 Crystals Through CaH2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
CaH2 reduction reconstructively transforms insulating LiNbO3 single crystals into superconducting bulk LiNbO2 with a critical temperature of Tc = 14.4 K. Scanning electron microscopy reveals large‐volume, high‐yield phase conversion. Magnetization measurements demonstrate a robust ∼ 77% Meissner shielding fraction, establishing bulk superconductivity ...

A Critical Call for Mechanistic Investigations of Metal‐Bacteria Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
It is well established that the antibacterial properties of metals have tremendous importance for bioengineering applications. What is not as appreciated, however, is the reproducibility crisis in this field's vast literature. In this perspective, we highlight this reproducibility problem, discuss its sources, and suggest solutions towards focused ...

Bacteria‐Trained, MnO2‐Armored Dendritic Cells for Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
MnO2‐armored, bacteria‐trained dendritic cells undergo tumor‐responsive mechanical and immunological transformation. The nanocoating masks immune ligands and maintains a mechanically stiff, quiescent state during circulation, while the tumor microenvironment removes the armor and restores cellular deformability and immune accessibility.

Drug Transporters in Drug Efficacy and Toxicity

Annual Review of Pharmacology and Toxicology, 2012
Drug transporters are now widely acknowledged as important determinants governing drug absorption, excretion, and, in many cases, extent of drug entry into target organs. There is also a greater appreciation that altered drug transporter function, whether due to genetic polymorphisms, drug-drug interactions, or environmental factors such as dietary ...

Placental Drug Transporters

Current Drug Metabolism, 2004
Any treatment of a pregnant woman with medication (drugs) de facto results in the treatment of her unborn child, even when her unborn child is not the target of drug therapy. This is because, in most instances, the placenta is not a complete barrier to the passage of drugs from the maternal to the fetal compartment.

Pharmacogenetics of Drug Transporters

Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2010
During the last decade, a greater focus has been given to impact of genetic variation in membrane transporters on the pharmacokinetics and toxicity of numerous therapeutic drugs. While the majority of transporter-related pharmacogenetic research has been in regards to classic genes encoding the outward-directed ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters ...
