The Influence of Local Microstructure Inhomogeneities on Local Drying Kinetics during Freeze-Drying

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2022
Freeze-drying is a gentle drying technique to dry high value products, such as pharmaceuticals, without impacting the quality of the product. However, this method is very time and cost intensive.

Modeling the Drying Kinetics of Green Bell Pepper in a Heat Pump Assisted Fluidized Bed Dryer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this research, green bell pepper was dried in a pilot plant fluidized bed dryer equipped with a heat pump humidifier using three temperatures of 40, 50 and 60C and two airflow velocities of 2 and 3m/s in constant air moisture.

Combining antibody conjugates with cytotoxic and immune‐stimulating payloads maximizes anti‐cancer activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

Effect of air velocity, temperature, and relative humidity on drying kinetics of rubberwood

open access: yesHeliyon, 2020
Kiln drying of rubberwood lumbers is a complex transport phenomenon for realistic modeling and simulation. To decouple this complexity, researchers usually divide their research into two parts.

Mechanical tuning of the evaporation rate of liquid on crossed fibers

open access: yes, 2015
We investigate experimentally the drying of a small volume of perfectly wetting liquid on two crossed fibers. We characterize the drying dynamics for the three liquid morphologies that are encountered in this geometry: drop, column and a mixed morphology,

Facile preparation of β-/γ-MgH2 nanocomposites under mild conditions and pathways to rapid dehydrogenation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A magnesium hydride composite with enhanced hydrogen desorption kinetics can be synthesized via a simple wet chemical route by ball milling MgH2 with LiCl as an additive at room temperature followed by tetrahydrofuran (THF) treatment under an Ar ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Drying kinetics of pumpkinseeds

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energy Research, 2000
The drying of pumpkinseeds was investigated in the present study. Pumpkinseed has a thin liquid film on its surface and has rough-surfaced peel. The most important parameter affecting its drying kinetics and increasing the drying rate is the temperature of the drying air. Drying was carried out with the surrounding air first at ambient temperature, and

Drying kinetics of ‘babassu’ mesocarp [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental, 2017
ABSTRACT ‘Babassu’ mesocarp flour has been used by the pharmaceutical, human food and animal feed industries. However, there is lack of standardization in the production, as well as absence of information on the management of the product’s quality. Thus, the objective of this study was to dry the ‘babassu’ mesocarp in forced-air oven and solar dryer ...

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...
