Dual boundary‐element method: Simple error estimator and adaptivity

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2011
AbstractThis paper is concerned with the effective numerical implementation of the adaptive dual boundary‐element method (DBEM), for two‐dimensional potential problems. Two boundary integral equations, which are the potential and the flux equations, are applied for collocation along regular and degenerate boundaries, leading always to a single‐region ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Enrichment of the Boundary Element Method through the Partition of Unity Method for Fracture Analysis using Local and Global Formulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The present thesis proposes an innovative technique of applying enrichment to the Boundary Element Method to allow accurate analysis of 2D crack problems. An overview of fracture mechanics is given, with particular emphasis given to numerical methods and

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Residual strength evaluation by DBEM for a cracked lap joint [PDF]

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2016
The present work summarizes a numerical procedure aimed at the evaluation of the residual strength of a cracked lap joint, based on the competing failure mechanisms regulated by the R-curve analysis and plastic collapse.

Isogeometric Analysis of the Dual Boundary Element Method for the Laplace Problem With a Degenerate Boundary

open access: yesJournal of Mechanics, 2019
ABSTRACTIn this paper, we develop the isogeometric analysis of the dual boundary element method (IGA-DBEM) to solve the potential problem with a degenerate boundary. The non-uniform rational B-Spline (NURBS) based functions are employed to interpolate the geometry and physical function.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Determination of suitable values for parameters governing B-spline based evolutionary structural optimisation using the boundary element method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The basic evolutionary structural optimisation concept (ESO) has been developed for several years. Recently, the first ESO algorithm based on the boundary element method (BEM) has been presented.

A partition of unity FEM for time-dependent diffusion problems using multiple enrichment functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
An enriched partition of unity FEM is developed to solve time-dependent diffusion problems. In the present formulation, multiple exponential functions describing the spatial and temporal diffusion decay are embedded in the finite element approximation ...
