The contrasting roles of water and dust in controlling daily variations in radiative heating of the summertime Saharan heat low [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The summertime Sahara heat low (SHL) is a key component of the West African monsoon (WAM) system. Considerable uncertainty remains over the relative roles of water vapour and dust aerosols in controlling the radiation budget over the Sahara and therefore

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.

Use of Extreme Vertices Method for Analysis of How Proportional Composition Affects Component Interactions and Product Distribution during Hydrothermal Treatment

open access: yesBioResources, 2016
The interaction among three biomass components (hemicellulose, cellulose, and lignin) in an autoclave was studied based on the extreme vertices of a constrained region that had a significant effect on the distribution and characteristics of the products.

Multistage cooling system for temperature reduction of the working face in deep coal mines: A technical-economic evaluation

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2023
Workers in deep coal mines are often exposed to hyperthermal conditions, which is a health and safety hazard. Although many novel approaches have been proposed in recent years, air distribution optimization combined with thermal analysis based on ...

An investigation of star formation and dust attenuation in major mergers using ultraviolet and infrared data

open access: yes, 2012
Merger processes play an important role in galaxy formation and evolution. To study the influence of merger processes on the evolution of dust properties and cosmic star formation rate, we investigate a local sample of major merger galaxies and a control

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Integrated ceRNA Network Analysis in Silica-Induced Pulmonary Fibrosis and Discovery of miRNA Biomarkers

open access: yesToxics
Silicosis is an irreversible and progressive pulmonary fibrotic disease caused by the long-term inhalation of silica dust. The precise molecular mechanisms underlying the disease remain incompletely understood, and effective early diagnostic biomarkers ...
