Physical Review Letters, 1994The reduced dynamics of a quantum system in contact with a reservoir is generally thought to be "completely positive"; this is certainly true if product initial conditions are used to define the dynamics. When asked to judge whether an object has changed its position with respect to a position shown a few milliseconds before, observers tend to detect the displacement more often when the displacement is not in the expected direction (downward for a falling object).

2013In this paper we model swarm dynamics by a nonautonomous linear system with row-stochastic matrices. It is shown that all birds approach the same velocity if their local interaction has the property that its intensity decays not too fast and its structure becomes not too loose. This mirrors in particular specific flight regimes.
