Nanoscale Study of Polymer Dynamics [PDF]
The thermal motion of polymer chains in a crowded environment is anisotropic and highly confined. Whereas theoretical and experimental progress has been made, typically only indirect evidence of polymer dynamics is obtained either from scattering or mechanical response.

Probabilistic Study of a Dynamical System [PDF]
The paper investigates relations between a nonlinear dynamical system on~\(\mathbb C^2\) and the long term behaviour of a certain branching process. More specifically, the dynamical system is given by \(\dot z=(R+Q)z-2z^2\) with \(z\in\mathbb C^2\), where~\(R\) is a diagonal matrix with positive entries, \(Q\) has positive off-diagonal elements and ...

Dynamics of Dissolutive Wetting: A Molecular Dynamics Study [PDF]
Dissolutive wetting, i.e., dynamic wetting of a liquid droplet on dissolvable substrates, has been studied by molecular dynamics simulations. In dissolutive wetting, the geometry and properties of the solid-liquid interface evolve with the solid dissolving into the droplet; meanwhile, the droplet spreads on the receding solid surfaces.

Three-beam convergent-beam electron diffraction for measuring crystallographic phases
Under almost all circumstances, electron diffraction patterns contain information about the phases of structure factors, a consequence of the short wavelength of an electron and its strong Coulombic interaction with matter.

A dynamical study of the Friedmann equations [PDF]
Cosmology is an attracting subject for students but usually difficult to deal with if general relativity is not known. In this article, we first recall the Newtonian derivation of the Friedmann equations which govern the dynamics of our universe and discuss the validity of such a derivation.

SPIND: a reference-based auto-indexing algorithm for sparse serial crystallography data
SPIND (sparse-pattern indexing) is an auto-indexing algorithm for sparse snapshot diffraction patterns (`stills') that requires the positions of only five Bragg peaks in a single pattern, when provided with unit-cell parameters.

A study of dynamic reconnection [PDF]
The recently introduced Extended Architecture (XA) of large IBM computer systems includes, in the disk I/O area, the ability for an access to be resumed and completed on a path different from the one on which it has been initiated. The expected disk performance improvement due to this feature - known as Dynamic Path Reconnection - is investigated in ...

CFD studies of dynamic gauging [PDF]
Dynamic gauging is a non-contact technique for measuring the thickness of soft deposit layers on solid surfaces immersed in liquid environments, in situ and in real time. The technique works by inducing a flow into a nozzle located close to, and normal to, the deposit surface; the relationship between pressure drop and mass flow rate yields a measure ...
