Targeted decrease of portal hepatic pressure gradient improves ascites control after TIPS

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
The river diagram demonstrates that after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt insertion (TIPS) the majority of patients without ascites and 50% of the patients with ascites detectable at ultrasound, show the best response in the long term follow‐up.

Dark matter in massive early-type galaxies: 100 years of the jeans equations [PDF]

open access: yesSerbian Astronomical Journal, 2019
In 1919 James Jeans published the book Problems of Cosmogony and Stellar Dynamics in which he summarized his work on dynamics of stellar systems based on his papers published from 1915 onwards.

The Outer Halos of Early-Type Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2014
AbstractThe outer halos of massive early-type galaxies (ETGs) are dark matter dominated and may have formed by accretion of smaller systems during galaxy evolution. Here a brief report is given of some recent work on the kinematics, angular momentum, and mass distributions of simulated ETG halos, and of corresponding properties of observed halos ...

Rejuvenating Star Formation Activity in an Early-type Dwarf Galaxy, LEDA 1915372, with Accreted H i Gas

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
We report a rare astrophysical phenomenon, in which an early-type dwarf galaxy (dE), LEDA 1915372, is accreting gas from a nearby star-forming dwarf galaxy, MRK 0689, and is rejuvenating star formation activity at the center.

Lopsidedness in Early-Type Disk Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1998
We quantify the mean asymmetry of 54 face-on, early type disk galaxies (S0 to Sab) using the amplitude of the m=1 azimuthal Fourier component of the R-band surface brightness. We find that the median lopsidedness, (A_1/A_0)_{mean}, of our sample is 0.11 and that the most lopsided 20% of our galaxies have (A_1/A_0)_{mean} >= 0.19.

A search for features in early-type galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1986
We are conducting a search for dust lanes, incipient stellar disks and bars, and other deviations from elliptical symmetry in a sample ∼ 250 early-type galaxies. Division by a model galaxy image is a very powerful enhancement technique for this type of work.

Quantitative Morphology of High-Redshift Galaxies Using GALEX Ultraviolet Images of Nearby Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2017
We present simulations of the optical-band images of high-redshift galaxies utilizing 845 near-ultraviolet (NUV) images of nearby galaxies obtained through the Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX). We compute the concentration (C), asymmetry (A), Gini (G),
