[Revisiting early weaning through history].

open access: yesRevista latino-americana de enfermagem, 2003
The basic action of health requests addressed strategy as taking consciousness to the importance of the breastfeeding. The breastfeeding history shows a hiatus as the people worked with precocious wean. The aim of this study was revisit precocious wean through historical breastfeeding clipping. Genetic aspects of calving, growth, and carcass traits in beef cattle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The aim of this thesis was to learn more about the genetic background of calving, growth and carcass traits of beef cattle breeds in Sweden, and to assess the possibility of including calving traits and commercial carcass traits in the genetic evaluation.

Overview of Encapsulated Lysine and Methionine and Their Impacts on Transition Cow Performance and Health

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The transition period in dairy cows, spanning 3 weeks before and after calving, is a critical phase characterized by increased nutrient demands, reduced dry matter intake (DMI), and elevated risk of metabolic disorders such as negative nutrient balance (NNB), lipolysis, proteolysis, and oxidative stress.

Managemental influences on the selective proliferation of two strains of haemolytic Escherichia coli in weaned pigs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
In an experimental study on a piggery it was found that haemolytic Escherichia coli of O-serotypes 138 or 139 proliferated in the intestinal tracts of pigs following weaning, with E.

Use of Restricted Nursing and a Bovine Appeasing Substance on the Welfare, Growth Performance, and Response to Vaccination of Beef Calves at Weaning

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The effects of restricted nursing (RN) and the administration of a bovine appeasing substance (BAS) on days −8 and 0 in relation to weaning were evaluated. Both strategies were effective in improving the growth performance of beef calves. Regarding welfare, BAS ‐especially on day 0‐ was more effective than RN.

Gene co-expression network analysis reveals positive effects of concentrate supplementation on energy metabolism in early-weaned Nellore calves

open access: yesFrontiers in Animal Science
IntroductionTo determine the impact of early weaning combined with concentrate supplementation on skeletal muscle energy metabolism, we profiled gene co-expression networks in Bos indicus (Nellore) calves.Material and methodsLongissimus thoracis biopsies

Dietary Mannan‐Rich Fractions Attenuate Weaning Stress in Piglets via Modulating Gut Microbiota and TLR5/NF‐κB Signaling

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study aimed to investigate the potential of a mannan‐rich fraction (MRF) as a dietary intervention to alleviate weaning stress in piglets. Our results revealed that MRF could alleviate weaning stress by modulating the gut microbiota and the TLR5/NF‐κB signaling pathway, offering a novel and sustainable alternative to antibiotic use in swine ...

Effects of pre-weaning concentrate feeding on calf performance, carcass and meat quality of autumn-born bull calves weaned at 90 or 150 days of age

open access: yesAnimal, 2008
A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of pre-weaning concentrate feeding in early-weaned (EW, day 90) or traditionally weaned (TW, day 150) autumn-born beef calves on growth, feed intake and feed efficiency, and carcass and meat quality.
