Projecting a long‐term healthcare expenditure in the United States: Do climate change, globalization, and technological innovation play a major role?

open access: yesNatural Resources Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Recognizing the paramount importance of health, the United Nations Development Program has outlined sustainable development goals, emphasizing Goal 3, which focuses on ensuring and promoting healthy lives and well‐being for all. Consequently, this study delves into the determinants of healthcare expenditure (HCE), specifically focusing on ...

Ebola Virus Localization in the Macaque Reproductive Tract during Acute Ebola Virus Disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Sexual transmission of Ebola virus (EBOV) has been demonstrated more than a year after recovery from the acute phase of Ebola virus disease (EVD). The mechanisms underlying EBOV persistence and sexual transmission are not currently understood.

Ebola virus-like particles produced in insect cells exhibit dendritic cell stimulating activity and induce neutralizing antibodies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Recombinant baculoviruses (rBV) expressing Ebola virus VP40 (rBV-VP40) or GP (rBV-GP) proteins were generated. Infection of Sf9 insect cells by rBV-VP40 led to assembly and budding of filamentous particles from the cell surface as shown by electron ...

Anti-Niemann Pick C1 Single-Stranded Oligonucleotides with Locked Nucleic Acids Potently Reduce Ebola Virus Infection In Vitro

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Nucleic Acids, 2019
Ebola virus is the causative agent of Ebola virus disease, a severe, often fatal illness in humans. So far, there are no US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved therapeutics directed against Ebola virus.

Ebola Virus Persistence in Semen Ex Vivo

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2016
On March 20, 2015, a case of Ebola virus disease was identified in Liberia that most likely was transmitted through sexual contact. We assessed the efficiency of detecting Ebola virus in semen samples by molecular diagnostics and the stability of Ebola ...

Ebola virus protein VP40 stimulates IL-12– and IL-18–dependent activation of human natural killer cells

open access: yesJCI Insight, 2022
Accumulation of activated natural killer (NK) cells in tissues during Ebola virus infection contributes to Ebola virus disease (EVD) pathogenesis. Yet, immunization with Ebola virus-like particles (VLPs) comprising glycoprotein and matrix protein VP40 ...

Historical parallels, Ebola virus disease and cholera: understanding community distrust and social violence with epidemics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In the three West African countries most affected by the recent Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak, resistance to public health measures contributed to the startling speed and persistence of this epidemic in the region.

Ebola Virus Antibodies in Fruit Bats, Bangladesh

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2013
To determine geographic range for Ebola virus, we tested 276 bats in Bangladesh. Five (3.5%) bats were positive for antibodies against Ebola Zaire and Reston viruses; no virus was detected by PCR.
