Prevalence of HPV, EBV, MMTV and SV40 co-infection in women with invasive breast cancer: as a potential new viral etiology [PDF]
Aim: Breast cancer (BC) is the leading cause of female cancer-related death worldwide. The high incidence of BC has sparked interest in the viral agents role in its development.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a double stranded DNA virus of the family Herpesviridae. EBV is associated with a variety of lymphomas, and the mechanisms by which it promotes lymphomagenesis have been elucidated; this includes, for example, by translocation/activation of Myc in Burkitt lymphoma.

The role of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) in virus-related cancers: a mini review
The modulation of the host innate immune system is a well-established carcinogenesis feature of several tumors, including human Epstein-Barr (EBV) and Papillomavirus-(HPV) related cancers.

ABSTRACT Purpose Air pollution has been linked to several neurological conditions, including stroke and neurodegenerative diseases. Evidence regarding its association with multiple sclerosis (MS) remains conflicting, limited by small sample sizes. Methods PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane controlled register of trials (CENTRAL) were searched on ...

Telomeres and Viruses: Common Themes of Genome Maintenance
Genome maintenance mechanisms actively suppress genetic instability associated with cancer and aging. Some viruses provoke genetic instability by subverting the host’s control of genome maintenance.

ABSTRACT Objective In multiple sclerosis, the optimal time for deploying a therapeutic intervention is before the central nervous system is damaged; given the success of trials treating the earliest stage of MS, the radiologically isolated syndrome, developing primary prevention strategies is an important next challenge.

PD‐L1‐Binding Antigen Presenters: Redirecting Vaccine‐Induced Antibodies for Cancer Immunotherapy
The PBAP‐gE complex anchors gE antigen to PD‐L1 on tumor cells. Vaccine‐induced anti‐gE antibodies simultaneously engage FcγRIIIa on NK cells and tumor‐bound PBAP‐gE, triggering NK cell activation and antibody‐dependent cellular cytotoxicity, thereby selectively eliminating PD‐L1–expressing tumor cells.

Chronic inflammation evoked by pathogenic stimulus during carcinogenesis
A pathogenic (biological or chemical) stimulus is the earliest information received by a cell that can result in the disruption of homeostasis with consequent development of disease.

Up to 40% of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) cases are associated with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Clonal viral genomes can be found in the HL tumor cells, the Hodgkin Reed-Sternberg cells (HRS). The latent infection results in expression of the viral oncogenes LMP1 and LMP2A which contribute to generate the particular phenotype of the HRS cells.
