Chronic virus infections supress atopy but not asthma in a set of children from a large Latin American city: a cross-section study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
BACKGROUND: The prevalence of allergic diseases has increased over recent decades in affluent countries, but remains low in rural populations and some non-affluent countries.

Integrating Immunotherapy Into Head and Neck Surgery: Bridging Tumor Biology to Perioperative Decision‐Making, a Review

open access: yesHead &Neck, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To provide a comprehensive review of the biological rationale, clinical evidence, and practical perioperative management of immunotherapy for the head and neck surgeon. Summary Background Data Standard treatment for resectable head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) has reached a survival plateau, with over 50% of patients ...

Co-presence of Epstein–Barr virus and high-risk human papillomaviruses in Syrian colorectal cancer samples

open access: yesHuman Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics, 2020
We recently performed two studies exploring the presence of Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) and high-risk human papillomaviruses (HPVs) types 16, 18, 31, 33 and 35 in human colorectal cancers from the Syrian population.

BARF1 AS A NEW THERAPEUTIC TARGET FOR EBV-ASSOCIATED MALIGNANCIES.

open access: yes, 2010
While Epstein-Barr virus-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (EBV-CTLs) have been used successfully for the prophylaxis and treatment of the highly immunogenic post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders, the clinical experience for other EBV-associated ...

EBV-specific Ab-dependent removal of B cell-bound VP by NK cells is an active process independent of perforin and proteases.

open access: yes, 2021
(A, C-G) B cells were pretreated with AKBM VP (A, C, E) or with B95.8 VP (D, F, G), stained after washing with anti-gp350 and cultured with NK cells together with EBV S- or EBV S+ sera for 4h. (A) NK cells were pre-incubated for 2h with 50nM Dasatinib or

The Growth Supporting Role of ZDHHC11 Is Linked to the MEF2B–BCL6 Regulatory Circuit in Burkitt Lymphoma

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
MEF2B and BCL6 have established functions in germinal center B‐cell biology and lymphomagenesis. The mechanism of MEF2B deregulation and its significance for cell survival in Burkitt lymphoma however remain unclear. This study highlights MEF2B as a crucial transcription factor in Burkitt lymphoma and suggests ZDHHC11 as an upstream regulator of MEF2B ...

EBV and human cancer [PDF]

open access: yesExperimental & Molecular Medicine, 2015
Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) was the first virus shown to cause cancer in humans and is associated with a wide range of human cancers originating from epithelial cells, lymphocytes and mesenchymal cells. EBV-associated neoplasms affect both immune-competent hosts and immune-compromized patients who have received an organ transplant or who exhibit ...

Clonal origin of Epstein-Barr virus-infected T/NK-cell subpopulations in chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection

open access: yes, 2010
Clonal expansion of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infected B-cells occasionally occurs in immunocompromized subjects. EBV-infected T/natural killer (NK)-cells proliferate in patients with chronic active EBV infection (CAEBV) that is a rare mononucleosis ...

Burden and Correlates of Multiple Chronic Infections and Their Associations With Cancer Incidence in Chinese Adults: A Large Case‐Cohort Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
While several oncogenic pathogens cause site‐specific cancers, uncertainties remain about many other chronic infections and combined pathogen effects, especially in non‐Western populations. Using a large case–cohort study nested within the China Kadoorie Biobank, the authors found that co‐infection was common, with a mean of 10 pathogens per individual.
