The epidermal cells of most annelid worms secrete a cuticle which consists of a mixture of proteins and sugars. The Hirudinea have been reported, more than a century ago [1], to molt, a process which is less conspicuous in other annelid worms, although it is regularly observed in species like the polychaete Nereis divenicolor.

A reappraisal of ecdysteroid binding in drosophila

Ecdysteroid binding was investigated in Kc cells and larval fat body of Drosophila. After incubation of intact Kc cells, 200-300 specific binding sites were detected for both 20-OH ecdysone and ponasterone A. However, if cells were fractionated prior to incubation with 20-OH ecdysone, no specific binding was observed.

Ecdysteroid receptors of the blowfly Calliphora vicina: Partial purification and characterization of ecdysteroid binding

A macromolecule with high affinity for the ecdysteroid analogue ponasterone A was isolated from nuclei of larvae of the blowfly Calliphora vicina. The ecdysteroid-binding molecule revealed characteristics of the moulting hormone receptor. It was sensitive towards protease but not towards nucleases.

Stereoselective synthesis of 9α-hydroxylated ecdysteroids

Treatment of ecdysteroids with excess of TBAF in THF was shown to proceed with stereoselective oxidation at the 9alpha position of the carbon skeleton. The stereochemistry of the products was confirmed by X-ray analysis. Using this method, 9alpha-hydroxyecdysteroids were obtained in good yield.
