Spin current in an electron waveguide tunnel-coupled to topological insulator

open access: yes, 2012
We show that electron tunneling from edge states in two-dimensional topological insulator into a parallel electron waveguide leads to the appearance of spin-polarized current in the waveguide.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Edge-type connectors evaluated by electrical noise measurement [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
Electrical noise measurement system measures noise generated by edge-type connectors and circuit cards when they are subjected to sinusoidal vibration. It provides a signal across the contact area and monitors the signal change during vibration.

Interaction induced edge channel equilibration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The electronic distribution functions of two Coulomb coupled chiral edge states forming a quasi-1D system with broken translation invariance are found using the equation of motion approach.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Optimization of Contact Edge Profile for Minimizing Contact Pressure in a Press-fitted Shaft

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
In the shrink or press-fitted shafts such as railway axles, the rotor of a steam turbine or coupling, a high-stress concentration takes place in the close of contact edge due to relative slip between shaft and boss in a press-fitted shaft and this is a ...

Apparatus for cutting elastomeric materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
Sharp thin cutting edge is held in head of milling machine designed for metal working. Controls of machine are used to position cutting edge in same plane as vibrating specimen. Controls then are operated, making blade come into contact with specimen, to

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Nonequilibrium noise correlations in a point contact of helical edge states

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate theoretically the nonequilibrium finite-frequency current noise in a four-terminal quantum point contact of interacting helical edge states at a finite bias voltage.
