pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Disordered contacts can localize helical edge electrons [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2019
Abstract It is well known that quantum spin Hall (QSH) edge modes being helical are immune to backscattering due to non-magnetic disorder within the sample. Thus, QSH edge modes are non-localized and show a vanishing Hall resistance along with quantized 2-terminal, longitudinal and non-local resistances even in ...

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...

FEM Studies of CMP Retainer Ring Using Metamodel [PDF]

open access: yes한국정밀공학회지
This study introduces a novel retainer ring design aimed at mitigating the edge effect during chemical mechanical planarization. The innovative design features an arch-shaped geometry that creates a bending effect, thereby reducing excessive pressure on ...

Non-equilibrium noise in the (non-)Abelian fractional quantum Hall effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We analyse the noise of the edge current of a generic fractional quantum Hall state in a tunnelling point contact system. We show that the non-symmetrized noise in the edge current for the system out-of-equilibrium is completely determined by the noise ...

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

考虑边缘接触直齿面齿轮传动轮齿接触分析

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2009
The tooth edge contact of face gear drive with spur pinion isunavoidable. The meshing of face gear drive with spur pinion is investigated. A mathematical model and a constraint condition are developed, by which the contact points on tooth edge could be ...

Role of chemical termination in edge contact to graphene

open access: yesAPL Materials, 2014
Edge contacts to graphene can offer excellent contact properties. Role of different chemical terminations is examined by using ab initio density functional theory and quantum transport simulations. It is found that edge termination by group VI elements O

Finite Element Modeling of an Elderly Person’s Cornea and Rigid Gas Permeable Contact Lenses for Presbyopic Patients

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
Rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses are a common presbyopic correction tool. However, many patients clinically need a long period of adaptation after wearing.

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...
