Is There a Future for Stochastic Modeling in Business and Industry in the Era of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence?

open access: yesApplied Stochastic Models in Business and Industry, Volume 41, Issue 2, March/April 2025.
ABSTRACT The paper arises from the experience of Applied Stochastic Models in Business and Industry which has seen, over the years, more and more contributions related to Machine Learning rather than to what was intended as a stochastic model. The very notion of a stochastic model (e.g., a Gaussian process or a Dynamic Linear Model) can be subject to ...

Classical Multiple Orthogonal Polynomials for Arbitrary Number of Weights and Their Explicit Representation

open access: yesStudies in Applied Mathematics, Volume 154, Issue 3, March 2025.
ABSTRACT This paper delves into classical multiple orthogonal polynomials with an arbitrary number of weights, including Jacobi–Piñeiro, Laguerre of both first and second kinds, as well as multiple orthogonal Hermite polynomials. Novel explicit expressions for general recurrence coefficients, as well as the stepline case, are provided for all these ...

Exponentials rarely maximize Fourier extension inequalities for cones

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 111, Issue 3, March 2025.
Abstract We prove the existence of maximizers and the precompactness of Lp$L^p$‐normalized maximizing sequences modulo symmetries for all valid scale‐invariant Fourier extension inequalities on the cone in R1+d$\mathbb {R}^{1+d}$. In the range for which such inequalities are conjectural, our result is conditional on the boundedness of the extension ...

Emotions in engineering education: A configurative meta‐synthesis systematic review

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Education, Volume 113, Issue 4, Page 1287-1326, October 2024.
Abstract Background The study of emotions in engineering education (EEE) has increased in recent years, but this emerging, multidisciplinary body of research is dispersed and not well consolidated. This paper reports on the first systematic review of EEE research and scholarship.

Applying projective functors to arbitrary holonomic simple modules

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 110, Issue 2, August 2024.
Abstract We prove that applying a projective functor to a holonomic simple module over a semisimple finite‐dimensional complex Lie algebra produces a module that has an essential semisimple submodule of finite length. This implies that holonomic simple supermodules over certain Lie superalgebras are quotients of modules that are induced from simple ...

Unveiling the Distinct Structure of the Upper Mantle Beneath the Canary and Madeira Hotspots, as Depicted by the 660, 410, and X Discontinuities

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 129, Issue 5, May 2024.
Abstract The Canary and Madeira Islands are two distinct hotspots in the Central‐East Atlantic that are close to each other. Their volcanism is generally attributed to underlying mantle plumes, but the detailed structure of these plumes is still not well understood.

Landscape structure and farming management interacts to modulate pollination supply and crop production in blueberries

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 61, Issue 2, Page 281-291, February 2024.
Deployment of beehives in blueberry fields can buffer, but not compensate for the negative effects on honeybee abundance produced by surrounding large scale none‐flowering crops. Such compensation would require high‐quality beehives by monitoring their health and strength.
