Analysis of Task Demand Effects on Visual and Auditory Mismatch Negativity (MMN) Across Autistic and Schizotypal Traits

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 63, Issue 7, April 2026.
Task difficulty reduced mismatch negativity (MMN) amplitude across auditory and visual modalities. Autistic traits showed modality and difficulty‐specific patterns: communication difficulties related to smaller auditory MMN in the easy task, while restricted interests/detail orientation related to larger visual MMN in the difficult task.

Let's stop measuring animal sound frequencies in hertz

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 11, Page 2545-2551, November 2025.
Abstract Research on the function and evolution of animal sounds typically analyses sound frequency on a linear scale (Hz), despite the perception and modulation of sound frequency by animals being better described with an equal‐ratios scale (logHz). Using a linear frequency scale causes bias in analyses, and distorts the visual representation of sound
