Features of calculating the effective atomic number of complex media by attenuating radiation of various energies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The method for calculating the effective atomic number Zэф of complex environments consisting of elements with very different atomic numbers has been proposed.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Dual-layer dual-energy CT for improving differential diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma from adenocarcinoma at gastroesophageal junction

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2022
ObjectiveTo examine the clinical values of dual-energy CT parameters derived from dual-layer spectral detector CT (SDCT) in the differential diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma (AC) of the gastroesophageal junction (GEJ ...

Effective Atomic Number Dependence of Radiological Parameters of Some Organic Compounds at 122 KeV Gamma Rays

open access: yes, 2018
Mass attenuation coefficient is a fundamental parameter of radiation interaction, from which the other radiological parameters like half Value Layer [HVL], tenth Value Layer [TVL], total atomic and electronic cross-sections, mass energy absorption ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Effective atomic number of some rare earth compounds determined by the study of external bremsstrahlung

open access: yesJournal of Radiation Research and Applied Sciences, 2015
In this paper we report the effective atomic number (Zeff) of some rare earth compounds determined from the measured external bremsstrahlung (EB) intensity due to the incident beta particles emitted by the 90Sr-90Y source. For this purpose the two sample

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Pb-free Radiation Shielding Glass Using Coal Fly Ash

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical and Fundamental Sciences, 2015
In this work, Pb-free shielding glass samples were prepared by the melt quenching technique using subbituminous fly ash (SFA) composed of xBi2O3 : (60-x)B2O3 : 10Na2O : 30SFA (where x = 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 by wt%). The samples were investigated for

Friction force microscopy : a simple technique for identifying graphene on rough substrates and mapping the orientation of graphene grains on copper [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
At a single atom thick, it is challenging to distinguish graphene from its substrate using conventional techniques. In this paper we show that friction force microscopy (FFM) is a simple and quick technique for identifying graphene on a range of samples,

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
