Using epidemic prevalence data to jointly estimate reproduction and removal

open access: yes, 2010
This study proposes a nonhomogeneous birth--death model which captures the dynamics of a directly transmitted infectious disease. Our model accounts for an important aspect of observed epidemic data in which only symptomatic infecteds are observed.

Suitable rootstocks for organically grown tomato and cucumber in relation to Meloidogyne SPP. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In organic greenhouse vegetable production, significant yield loss occurs due to root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.). Soil steaming is effective; however, it is not preferred, since beneficial soil micro organisms are eliminated.

Country-Wise Forecast Model for the Effective Reproduction Number Rt of Coronavirus Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
Due to the particularities of SARS-CoV-2, public health policies have played a crucial role in the control of the COVID-19 pandemic. Epidemiological parameters for assessing the stage of the outbreak, such as the Effective Reproduction Number (Rt), are ...

Cost-effectiveness of a potential Zika vaccine candidate: a case study for Colombia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: A number of Zika vaccine platforms are currently being investigated, some of which have entered clinical trials. We sought to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of a potential Zika vaccine candidate under the WHO Vaccine Target Product Profile ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The effective reproduction number: Convexity, concavity and invariance

open access: yesJournal of the European Mathematical Society
Motivated by the question of optimal vaccine allocation strategies in heterogeneous population for epidemic models, we study various properties of the effective reproduction number . In the simplest case, given a fixed non-negative matrix K , this corresponds ...

REAL TIME ESTIMATION OF REPRODUCTION NUMBERS BASED ON CASE NOTIFICATIONS-Effective reproduction number of primary pneumonic plague

open access: yesTropical Medicine and Health, 2005
To estimate the time-dependent transmission potential of primary pneumonic plague (PPP), we analyzed historical records from six outbreaks. Based on contact investigation information (source of infection information) of three outbreaks, we generalized the probability density function of the serial interval with a Gamma distribution using maximum ...

Covid-19 Pandemic R Effective Reproduction Number Based Correlation Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
<div>A comprehensive investigation on the variation of the Covid-19 pandemic adequate reproduction number (R) in four critical European countries is provided in this study as a function of the variations related to the weather, mobility, government responses, and epidemiology.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Modeling present and future climate risk of dengue outbreak, a case study in New Caledonia

open access: yesEnvironmental Health, 2022
Background Dengue dynamics result from the complex interactions between the virus, the host and the vector, all being under the influence of the environment.
