Direct comparison of 3 PCR methods in detecting EGFR mutations in patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations are predictive of response to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in NSCLC. Several methods have been used to detect EGFR mutations; however, it is not clear which is the most suitable for use in the ...

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Development of a novel EGFR-targeted peptide for targeted delivery of drugs in anaplastic thyroid cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
peer reviewedAnaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) represents the most aggressive and deadliest thyroid cancer in human with a high proliferative and metastatic potential. The median survival of patients with ATC is of about 4 months after diagnosis and the

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

EGFR Mutations and Resistance to Irreversible Pyrimidine-Based EGFR Inhibitors [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Cancer Research, 2015
Abstract Purpose: Mutant selective irreversible pyrimidine-based EGFR kinase inhibitors, including WZ4002, CO-1686, and AZD9291, are effective in preclinical models and in lung cancer patients harboring the EGFR T790M gefitinib/erlotinib resistance mutation.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Dialing in EGFR Signaling

open access: yesChemistry & Biology, 2015
The ErbB family is a subfamily of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs). In RTKs, ligand binding at the extracellular region triggers diverse cytoplasmic signaling cascades. Exactly how ligand binding is translated into specific signaling outcomes remains incompletely understood. In this issue, Doerner et al.
