Ecology of the Australian Elapid Snake Echiopsis curta

Dissection of 187 specimens provided data on body sizes, sexual size dimorphism, food habits, reproductive cycles and inferred growth rates of this small venomous snake. Adult Echiopsis curia average approximately 30 cm snout-vent length, with males and females attaining similar sizes.

Experimental studies on curing elapid bite with trypsin.

The local injection of trypsin can be regarded as a new and effective therapy for venomous snakebite. Our experiments indicate that when mice or dogs have been injected with the lethal dose of elapid venom subcutaneously, they can all survive and have no symptoms of systemic poisoning if necessary dose of trypsin is injected locally and promptly.
