Exploring the Release of Elastin Peptides Generated from Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Bovine Elastin via Peptide Mapping [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
To enhance the understanding of enzymatic hydrolysis and to accelerate the discovery of key bioactive peptides within enzymatic products, this research focused on elastin as the substrate and investigated the variations in peptide profiles and the ...

Elastin peptides in aging and pathological conditions [PDF]

open access: yesBiomolecular Concepts, 2013
Elastin is the protein responsible for the resilience of vertebrate tissue. It is an extremely stable protein deposited during the early stages of life and experiencing almost no renewal. As a consequence, it can be considered that each individual has an

Elastin Peptides as a Potential Disease Vector in the Pathogenesis of Pulmonary Emphysema: An Investigation of This Hypothesis [PDF]

open access: yesLife
The degradation of elastic fibers is a fundamental characteristic of pulmonary emphysema, resulting in the release of proinflammatory elastin peptides.

Isolation, Purification and Characterization of Antioxidative Bioactive Elastin Peptides from Poultry Skin [PDF]

open access: yesFood Science of Animal Resources, 2019
Muscle-based by-products are often undervalued although commonly reported having a high amount of natural bioactive peptides. In this study, elastin was isolated from the protein of broiler hen skin while its hydrolysate was prepared using Elastase ...

Role of elastin peptides and elastin receptor complex in metabolic and cardiovascular diseases [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Journal, 2019
The Cardiovascular Continuum describes a sequence of events from cardiovascular risk factors to end‐stage heart disease. It includes conventional pathologies affecting cardiovascular functions such as hypertension, atherosclerosis or thrombosis and was traditionally considered from the metabolic point of view.

Self-Assembly of Short Elastin-like Amphiphilic Peptides: Effects of Temperature, Molecular Hydrophobicity and Charge Distribution

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
A novel type of self-assembling peptides has been developed by introducing the basic elastomeric β-turn units of elastin protein into the amphiphilic peptide molecules.

Elastin peptides signaling relies on neuraminidase-1-dependent lactosylceramide generation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
The sialidase activity of neuraminidase-1 (Neu-1) is responsible for ERK 1/2 pathway activation following binding of elastin peptide on the elastin receptor complex.

Elastin in the Pathogenesis of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm [PDF]

open access: yesCells
Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) are progressive, life-threatening vascular disorders characterized by focal dilation of the abdominal aorta due to chronic weakening of the arterial wall.

Elastin peptides antagonize ceramide‐induced apoptosis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2009
Elastin peptides regulate proliferation, chemotaxis and protease expression. The aim of this work was to assess their influence on apoptosis. Human skin fibroblast cell death was induced using C2‐ceramide in the presence or absence of elastin peptides. We show that ceramide‐induced apoptosis could be blocked by elastin peptides.

Engineered elastin-like polypeptides: An efficient platform for enhanced cancer treatment

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2023
Drug delivery systems (DDSs) have recently gained widespread attention for improving drug loading and delivery efficiency in treating many cancers. Elastin-like polypeptides (ELPs) are synthetic peptides derived from a precursor of elastin (tropoelastin),
