Spectroscopic studies on the antioxidant activity of ellagic acid
Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2014Ellagic acid (EA, C14H6O8) is a natural dietary polyphenol whose benefits in a variety of diseases shown in epidemiological and experimental studies involve anti-inflammation, anti-proliferation, anti-angiogenesis, anticarcinogenesis and anti-oxidation properties. In vitro radical scavenging and antioxidant capacity of EA were clarified using different

Augmentation of Radiation-Induced Apoptosis by Ellagic Acid
Cancer Investigation, 2009This study evaluates the potential of ellagic acid (EA) as an enhancer of radiation-induced apoptosis in cancer cells. HeLa cells treated with EA and gamma radiation showed increased superoxide generation, upregulated p53 protein expression, and decreased antioxidant enzymes.

Ellagic Acid and Its Role in Chronic Diseases
2016Ellagic acid is a natural anti-oxidant phenol found in numerous fruits and vegetables, in particular pomegranate, persimmon, raspberry, black raspberry, strawberry, peach, plumes, nuts (walnuts, almonds), and wine. The anti-proliferative and anti-oxidant properties of ellagic acid have prompted research into its potential health benefits.

DNA damaging activity of ellagic acid derivatives
Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, 2003A strain of yeast rendered repair deficient by the conditional expression of the RAD52 locus was used to search for natural products capable of damaging DNA. Four ellagic acid derivatives, namely 3,3'-dimethyl-4'-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl ellagic acid (1), 3,3',4-trimethyl-4'-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl ellagic acid (2), 3'-methyl-3,4-O,O-methylidene ellagic

Beware of Pomegranates Bearing 40% Ellagic Acid
Journal of Medicinal Food, 2006A recent profusion of pomegranate nutraceutical products, "standardized to 40% ellagic acid," has appeared in the marketplace. This Perspective reviews the chemical and functional studies of pomegranate as well as the virtues and dangers of ellagic acid, and concludes that synergy among the various pomegranate fractions and phytochemicals is the most ...

Melanin is a key factor determining the color of skin. The enzyme tyrosinase plays the most important role in melanin synthesis (melanogenesis) (1,2). Several tyrosinase inhibitors (chemicals, plant extracts, animal products) have been proposed, based on the view that melanogenesis can be controlled, and skin-whitening products can be developed if ...
