Ellagic acid derivatives from Rhabdodendron macrophyllum
Phytochemistry, 1985Abstract Rhabdodendron macrophyllum contains 24-methylenecycloartenol in the leaves, as well as 3-O-acetylaleuritolic acid and glycosides of oleanolic acid, hederagenin and arjunolic acid in the branches. Accompanied by 5′-methoxy-3,4,3′-tri-O-methylflavellagic acid, 3,4,⋯'-tri-O-methylflavellagic acid and ellagic acid (possibly in the form of methyl

A new ellagic acid glycoside from Paeonia delavayi
Fitoterapia, 2008A new ellagic acid glycoside, 4'-O-methylellagic acid 4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), was isolated from the root cortex of Paeonia delavayi. The structure was elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods.

Ellagic acid supports neuron by regulating astroglia Nrf2
Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, 2019AbstractAstroglia support neuron by providing substrates for neuronal metabolism, glutamate clearance, and antioxidative protection. Nuclear factor erythroid 2‐related factor 2 (Nrf2) participates in the antioxidative defense response. Also, Nrf2 signaling is recognized to activate the neurotrophic pathway to replace/protect damaged organelles. Ellagic

The metabolism of ellagic acid in the rat
Xenobiotica, 19801. Following oral administration of ellagic acid to the rat, 10% of the dose was excreted as 3,8-dihydroxy-6H-dibenzo[b,d]pyran-6-one in urine and faeces. A second metabolite was detected in urine and faeces but not identified. Both metabolites were of microfloral origin, as their formation was not observed in germ-free rats but was demonstrated when ...

Melanin is a key factor determining the color of skin. The enzyme tyrosinase plays the most important role in melanin synthesis (melanogenesis) (1,2). Several tyrosinase inhibitors (chemicals, plant extracts, animal products) have been proposed, based on the view that melanogenesis can be controlled, and skin-whitening products can be developed if ...

Beware of Pomegranates Bearing 40% Ellagic Acid
Journal of Medicinal Food, 2006A recent profusion of pomegranate nutraceutical products, "standardized to 40% ellagic acid," has appeared in the marketplace. This Perspective reviews the chemical and functional studies of pomegranate as well as the virtues and dangers of ellagic acid, and concludes that synergy among the various pomegranate fractions and phytochemicals is the most ...

Ellagic acid inhibits iron-mediated free radical formation
Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2017Polyphenols are reported to have some health benefits, which are link to their antioxidant properties. In the case of ellagic acid (EA), there is evidence that it has free radical scavenger properties and that it is able to form complexes with metal ions.

ABORTION IN MICE INDUCED BY ELLAGIC ACID
Acta Pathologica Microbiologica Scandinavica Section A Pathology, 1971Ellagic acid was injected intravenously into mice at day 8, 12, or 16 of pregnancy. In all animals given this treatment there was an increased frequency of abortion. Platelet‐fibrin masses were found in the lungs, in the great majority of the mice given ellagic acid at day 16 of gestation.
