Synthesis of ellagic acid and its 4,4'-di-Ο-alky derivatives from gallic acid [PDF]
Synthesis of ellagic acid and its 4,4'-di-Ο-alkyl derivatives from gallic acid is described. Ellagic acid is prepared by oxidative coupling of gallic acid with ο-chloranil.

Ellagic acid causes cell death in cancer cells by apoptosis.
(A) Ellagic acid causes perturbations in cell cycle progression in cancer cells. Ellagic acid treated colon cancer cell lines at their respective IC50 concentrations for 24 hours were stained with propidium iodide and was subjected to analysis in FL-2A ...

Antiatherogenic effects of ellagic acid and urolithins in vitro
Atherosclerosis, one of the leading causes of death worldwide, is characterized by impaired endothelial function and lipid metabolism, among other factors. Ellagitannins are a class of phenolic compounds that may play a role in cardiovascular health. This work aimed to study the potential atheroprotective effects of urolithins, ellagitannin-derived gut

Ellagic acid: Characterization as substrate of polyphenol oxidase [PDF]
AbstractEllagic acid has been described as an inhibitor of tyrosinase or polyphenol oxidase and, therefore, of melanogenesis. In this work, we demonstrate that ellagic acid is not an inhibitor, but a substrate of mushroom polyphenol oxidase, an enzyme which oxidizes ellagic acid, generating its o‐quinone.

ABSTRACT This study highlights the potential use of Cotinus coggygria Scop. plant extract in a single‐step synthesis of biocompatible and ultrasmall AgNPs for in vitro applications. Herein, microscopic analyses revealed that AgNP exposure did not induce appreciable morphological changes in CRL‐4010 cells, whereas MCF‐7 and MDA‐MB‐231 cells exhibited ...
