Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

In Bed with the Library: A Critical Exploration of Embedded Librarianship at the City University of New York

open access: yesCommunications in Information Literacy, 2017
This project considers the efficacy and scalability of embedded librarianship initiatives within the City University of New York (CUNY) library system and presents findings of an original research study conducted in 2015.

Emerging experimental and computational methods for studying redox‐regulated structural transitions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Redox reactions can reshape proteins and alter how they behave in cells, with important consequences for health and disease. This review explores emerging experimental and computational approaches for discovering these redox‐sensitive protein switches, revealing their structural effects, and predicting their behavior, opening new opportunities to ...

Embedment Effect on Foundations under Vertical Vibrations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
The dynamic response of the embedded foundation subjected to vertical dynamic loads has been studied through carefully conducted field tests. The block was excited in vertical and coupled modes of vibrations. Four excitation levels were used. Tests, with

Translophagy—A potential link between autophagy impairment and translational errors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterised by the accumulation of abnormal proteins and protein aggregates, but their origin often remains unknown. We propose that selective autophagy removes damaged protein‐making machinery, preventing errors during protein synthesis.

Effect of Thermal Modification of Spruce Wood on Nails Embedment Strength [PDF]

open access: yesPro Ligno, 2018
Nails represent the easiest and most common method to connect timber members, but, since joints and connections frequently represent the weakest points in timber structures, they need special attention.

‘Guide and Prejudice’— How Argonautes recognize targets across domains of life

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Argonaute proteins use short nucleic‐acid guides to locate and regulate specific targets across all domains of life. Despite striking diversity—from human gene silencing to bacterial immune defence—all Argonautes share a conserved three‐stage recognition logic: guide‐directed sampling, progressive target pairing with a conformational checkpoint and ...

Embedment test analysis and data in the context of phenomenological modeling for dowelled timber joint design

open access: yes, 2019
Numerical models, like the phenomenological Beam-On-Foundation (BOF) approach, have proven to be an efficient alternative to the analytical European Yield Model (EYM) for the design of dowelled timber joints according to EN 1995-1-1 (2004) (EC 5) (see e ...

Leucine‐rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) is a ganglioside‐binding protein

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neuronal hyperexcitability associated with a decrease/absence of the extracellular protein LGI1 has been suggested to be primarily due to the downregulation of Kv1 channel expression. The molecular mechanisms underlying this decrease have not yet been elucidated.

Proppant embedment behavior and elastic–plastic embedding depth modeling of coal reservoirs under multi-stage loading

open access: yesMeitan xuebao
To investigate the elasto-plastic embedment behavior of proppant during coalbed methane (CBM) production, a mechanical testing system equipped with a high-precision displacement sensor was used to design and conduct proppant-embedment tests under multi ...
