Avian Embryonic Stem Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Blastodermal cells derived from the area pellucida of a stage X (EG&K) embryo have the potential to contribute to the somatic tissues and the germ line when reintroduced into a stage X (EG&K) recipient embryo. This chapter describes a method to culture chicken embryonic stem (cES) cells derived from blastodermal cells. Within the first week of culture,

Smart Polymeric 3D Microscaffolds Hosting Spheroids for Neuronal Research via Quantum Metrology

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
Development of a platform consisting of 3D microscaffolds supporting 3D embryoid bodies for neuronal research. The polymeric scaffolds enable directed growth of neurites. This study shows nanodiamond‐based quantum sensors graft onto the polymer material, enabling quantum metrology experiments within the 3D neuronal model and thereby providing a ...

Constraints to Progress in Embryonic Stem Cells from Domestic Species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Domestic animal embryonic stem cells are of potentially big value in transgenic research and studies of lineage commitment and development. Unfortunately, despite many efforts, validated embryonic stem cell lines in species other than mice and primates ...

The Battlefield of Pluripotency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
SummaryHow embryonic stem cells maintain the potential to differentiate into multiple cell lineages is still unclear. In this issue of Cell, Niwa et al. (2005) show that a duel between the transcription factors Oct3/4 and Cdx2 can restrict embryonic stem

Mechanically and Chemically Defined PEG Hydrogels Improve Reproducibility in Human Cardioid Development

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Synthetic matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)‐degradable polyethylene glycol (PEG)‐based hydrogels are developed to investigate the influence of mechanical and biochemical cues on cardioid development. Matrix stiffness and cell adhesion motifs significantly regulate cardioid formation, chamber morphogenesis, contractile function, and cardioid transcriptome.

Similar Population of CD133+ and DDX4+ VSEL-Like Stem Cells Sorted from Human Embryonic Stem Cell, Ovarian, and Ovarian Cancer Ascites Cell Cultures: The Real Embryonic Stem Cells?

open access: yesCells, 2019
A population of small stem cells with diameters of up to 5 μm resembling very small embryonic-like stem cells (VSELs) were sorted from human embryonic stem cell (hESC) cultures using magnetic-activated cell sorting (MACS) based on the expression of ...

Engineering Assembloids to Mimic Graft‐Host Skeletal Muscle Interaction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a graft‐host skeletal muscle assembloid model combining neuromuscular organoids with tissue‐engineered constructs. Pre‐seeding decellularized muscles with myogenic cells enhances cell migration and axon invasion from the organoid. The model exhibits regenerative capacity following acute damage, advancing the understanding of human ...

Generation of Human Epidermis-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cell-like Pluripotent Cells and their reprogramming in mouse chimeras [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Stem cells can be derived from the embryo (embryonic stem cells, ESCs), from adult tissues (adult stem cells, ASCs), and by induction of fibroblasts (induced pluripotent stem cells, iPSs).
