INtelligent toolkit for reconnaissance, assessments and prehospital support in Perilous InciDents: a realistic experiment in prehospital environment

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research
Background First responders, when arriving at a disaster, need a rapid analysis of the environment in which they are going to operate, as they have to assess the conditions surrounding potential victims and neutralize any risks that may exist. The EU ...

Emergence is coupled to scope, not level [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
Since its application to systems, emergence has been explained in terms of levels of observation. This approach has led to confusion, contradiction, incoherence and at times mysticism. When the idea of level is replaced by a framework of scope, resolution and state, this confusion is dissolved.

A statistical study of magnetic flux emergence in solar active regions prior to strongest flares [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Using the data on magnetic field maps and continuum intensity for Solar Cycles 23 and 24, we explored 100 active regions (ARs) that produced M5.0 or stronger flares. We focus on the presence/absence of the emergence of magnetic flux in these ARs 2-3 days before the strong flare onset. We found that 29 ARs in the sample emerged monotonously amidst quiet-

Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention of Hemodialysis Emergencies.

open access: yesAmerican Society of Nephrology. Clinical Journal, 2017
Given the high comorbidity in patients on hemodialysis and the complexity of the dialysis treatment, it is remarkable how rarely a life-threatening complication occurs during dialysis.

Emerging viruses – is there an emerging pattern? [PDF]

open access: yesThe Biochemist, 2017
The Ebola outbreak in West Africa in 2014 and the spread of Zika across the Americas in 2016 have thrust previously obscure viruses into the media spotlight. But is something new really going on? What can we expect in future? Is there anything we can do?

Chemoresistome mapping in individual breast cancer patients unravels diversity in dynamic transcriptional adaptation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study used longitudinal transcriptomics and gene‐pattern classification to uncover patient‐specific mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance in breast cancer. Findings reveal preexisting drug‐tolerant states in primary tumors and diverse gene rewiring patterns across patients, converging on a few dysregulated functional modules. Despite receiving the

Lagrangian formulation for emergent elastic waves in magnetic emergent crystals [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Magnetic emergent crystals are periodic alignment of "particle-like" spin textures that emerge in magnets. Instead of focusing on an individual spin or a macroscopic magnetization field, we analyze the dynamical behaviors of these novel states by taking a solid-state point of view.

On Parallelism in Music and Language: A Perspective from Symbol Emergence Systems based on Probabilistic Generative Models [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Symposium on Computer Music Multidisciplinary Research. Cham: Springer International Publishing, 2021. p. 9-25
Music and language are structurally similar. Such structural similarity is often explained by generative processes. This paper describes the recent development of probabilistic generative models (PGMs) for language learning and symbol emergence in robotics.

Topics Emerged in the Biomedical Field and Their Characteristics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
This study aims to reveal what kind of topics emerged in the biomedical domain by retrospectively analyzing newly added MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) terms from 2001 to 2010 and how they have been used for indexing since their inclusion in the thesaurus. The goal is to investigate if the future trend of a new topic depends on what kind of topic it is

Ubiquitination of transcription factors in cancer: unveiling therapeutic potential

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In cancer, dysregulated ubiquitination of transcription factors contributes to the uncontrolled growth and survival characteristics of tumors. Tumor suppressors are degraded by aberrant ubiquitination, or oncogenic transcription factors gain stability through ubiquitination, thereby promoting tumorigenesis.
